Maybe Im in the minority. But I really don't see whats the big deal. Sure, its not a full blown pro-touring car, but not many cars (including many on this site) are true, only pro-touring cars. Its hard to get a ballance of a car that can run a course, yet still be civil on the street. Many cars are a little of both. This car just seems to be a little more towards street than road course. But it would certainly be more capable than if it was restored to original. It more than likely handles, brakes and accelerates better than it did from the factory. So doesn't that begin to make its distinction as pro-touring like? However, I would consider that car more of a resto-mod..
I guess my point is, I've seen worse called pro-touring cars before. Normally, someone will throw on a set of big wheels and thats it, bang!!!! pro-touring. But this car doesn't strike me offensively like some do.

Perhaps a new class - Semi-Pro Touring.....? :)

That's essentially what this car is; "....throw on a set of big wheels and thats it, bang!!!! pro-touring."
Poly bushings and not much else. Stock suspension, stock brakes. Sorry, you need a bit more than that.
Is it a tragedy? No. But I don't normally bitch about anything here so I thought I would indulge myself. :)

I think he spent a whopping $15.00 for drilled rotors at Autozone! I didn't even know that cross drilled rotors came in a size that small!

I'm with you on getting tired of seeing this term used to describe anything from the 60's with big wheels, but the way I see it, if someone is dumb enough to buy it that is their problem.
. . .but it does irk me that the phrase is getting watered down.

Nice stance. :hammer:
Judging by the 427 badges all over a car with a 396 (including badges on the engine itself) the guy has a knack for indulging by calling it something it's not.

Is it really a loop if you don't install the upper half?

hmmmm, I wonder if he knows what a 'frame off restoration' really is either...
I'd just call it a nice '68 chevelle; labels are confusing and misleading. lots of people would just call it a hot rod.
remember the 'street machine' label in the 70's and 80s? it's just like that, who the fcuk really cares?
I think it shows that PT is just another label used to sell a car, and to lots of people it seems throwing on big wheels means it's PT. hell, it's progress; I mean, lots of these guys were content to run w/o front discs or even a sway bar!
my brother was like that; when he got his nova from our Mom, it was a 6cyl sport coupe, powerglide, 4wheel non power drums and no front sway bar! all it had was power steering! that's the way he kept it, even after swapping in a 327 and a 4 speed!
at least this guy has discs on it.

Yep , "pro-touring" has become the buzzword to sell any musclecar now-a-days .
At one point in time , the buzzword was " hotrod" , then "streetrod" , then " street machine" , then "pro-street", and the list goes on and on ..
The buzzword trend will always be there .
Kinda' like changing fashion trends and hairstyles.

Once upon a time.... In a galaxy far far away,
there was a small fire called the "definition of protouring".
Tony wanted to stoke the fire. But instead of using a stick,
HE USES GASOLINE!

well in 99-00 I think there was only a few cars at the car show with bear brakes and mostly 13,12 and that was *pro-touring* with 17in wheels ,you couldnt spot a single ls at the car show and suspensions werent like todays lol ,so I really dont see why that car cant be called pro-tour if it has the right intentions but maybe not the big wallet for some ls9/6piston/isis/hre/blah blah blah .... haha

If it goes, stops, and turns better than stock...and that car probably does. By a lot? maybe not. But it does.
It also is together, running, and driving--meaning it could theoretically be brought to a p-t event and pushed to its (meager) limits--meaning it's a lot more capable than a lot of cars on this site in their current state, mine included (i need an oil filler cap, dangit!)
I'd rather be better than the exclusivist cliques that have developed all across the automotive world and accept any that wish to carry the p-t flame than start acting like there are enough of us now who dig pro-touring that we can start excluding people.
Even if he is just using it as a bogus selling point on e-bay--some kid might hit that ebay listing, google pro-touring, have his mind blown, and become the next finch or tucker or who knows what. No publicity is bad publicity.

This sort of thing already has a name. "Faux-touring." The intent only goes far enough to somewhat cover the appearance. Little real functionality is addressed and the owner doesn't seem to notice or care.
It's widespread and it is a problem. People seem to think throwing large wheels (which at least means they'll probably buy fairly good tires) makes a muscle car a pro-touring car.
*Disclaimer - I do not even refer to my own car as a pro-touring car as it is nothing but a standard hot rodded muscle car with stiff springs sitting stupidly low on sticky tires. It is, however, not arbitrarily slammed for the sake of "stance" nor is it wearing rubber band tires for the sake of looking "modern." It also does not have drag race specific suspension components. It has a purpose and a direction, it just isn't pro-touring yet (among many other things, it needs an overdrive, better brakes, and an electric fan for better cooling at idle.)

I got in contact with him through ebay. I don't think he understands what Pro-Touring is in the first place so how could he put the label on it.
It is what it is though. It's the First Amendment and he has the right to spout nonsense.
"Why is this car Pro-Touring?",me. He says, "Front disc brakes, box control arms in the rear, 18 inch rims".
Let's say this car already had the front discs, all he did was add the useless drilled rotors. Add the Boxed control arms, you already have the old wheels an tires off for the Autozone brake upgrade and control arm conversion so you throw on a set of Foose rimz (wheels). So, he has about 2 hours into making a stocker into a P-T car? To say that, "he has the intent" and "If it handles better than stock....." , is a slap in the face to those who have slaved under their car, tuning suspensions, figuring out those problems with 4 wheel disc conversion, hacking the tunnel to get a 5 or 6 speed to fit,.........
