What do you GM A body guys run for power steering boxes? Does anyone on here have experience with CPP's 500 box power steering kits? Heres an ebay link to it.

I currently have an old saginaw manual steering box on my 67' GTO and I need to have power steering. Im looking for a reasonably priced, all inclusive kit that will work well with my current factory stock suspension and also work well with a performance suspension upgrade in the future. Any suggestions? Is the CPP kit any good? Is there a good alternative for a better price?

Lee boxes are very good, though others do compare. Haven't used the CPP boxes, but have used the AGR and the Flaming River billet 'rack' box. I say the rack box if you can swing it, but there's nothing 'wrong' with the AGR.

Lee boxes about $545 when I called em summer of 2010 (if I remember correctly), plus $90 for the rag joint. SC&C also can get'em for ya, you may have a longer delay going thru them than ordering direct. I know this cause I asked SC&C about how long shipping would take & I asked LEE how long shipping would take.

I got a brand new AGR box for about $265 shipped a few years back and no complaints at all.

cheaper option but not as nice. Use a grand Cherokee box and a rag joint from an 80's chevy truck. you get a 12:1 ratio 2.5 turns lock to lock and it does not limit turning radius like some of the other stock boxes. You will also need o ring to flare adapters for the steering box.

Really? what year Grand Cherokee? does it bolt in or require a bunch of fab work?? Do you have more details?

Completely bolt in. You need a pitman arm from a power steering chevelle or other a body. It bolts directly to the frame in place of the original. The original power steering box has a radius of 43 degrees and 43 min The Cherokee boxes are all 43 degrees and 45 min

You will also need fitting adapters
Lee Manufacturing sells small aluminum inserts that can be press fitted into steering gears with metric pressure and return ports. You then can use the original hoses with the 11/16-18 UNS and 5/8-18 UNF nuts and 45 degree flared ends. Since the metric and conventional threads are very close to each other you will find that the 5/8 nut screws very easily into the 16mm port, the 11/16 nut may need a little persuasion but it also will screw into the 18mm port. The face of the Lee insert is cut at a 45 degree angle, so the old hoses will seal against it. There are two different inserts (#40620 – pressure) and (#40630 – return) and he sells them at a reasonable price.

Glad I could help, it is the way I am going also. I just don't have the funds for a $600 steering box. That is money I can spend elsewhere on the car. You should read all of Jim's FAQ before you do it. I was mistaken the Cherokee boxes are 12.7:1 not 12:1. Still better than stock. There are other boxes that will work as well, a few from some years of caprice and a couple other sources.

Ditto for the Lee Mfg stuff. I have the full monte (sorry) in my 64 Chevelle convt. & it works great. More $ perhaps but all new stuff & the tech support is the best. They supply Nascar too, so I'm told. Look them up & give them a call, very nice people!

What's sub-par with the AGR boxes? Curious in what ways the Lee boxes are that much better?

Has anyone tried the replacement type II pumps? I hear they bolt right up, and even firebirdcentral.com lists them as direct replacements?

I bought a brand new GM fast ratio steering box from www.cvsteering.com

Very happy with it, but in hindsight I would probably have saved more money to go with a Lee box...

The cvsteering box was more than the Lee? You paid more than $600?
