An Intro

Hey all- It's been a while since I've been a newbie on a board, but here I am. I've been a visitor on this site for some time now and finally decided to sign on and join the fun.

I'm without a car at the moment except for my daily driver Camry (with 247000 miles and still going). I'm looking for a 72-78 Ford Falcon (Australian car best known in the US as the black Interceptor in Mad Max and The Road Warrior), a 67-68 Firebird, or a 69/70 Mustang. Either would be getting some serious suspension and chassis upgrades and anything else to make it a sweet street machine. It's just a matter of finding a car that's not a rust bucket in disguise, or an owner who won't sell the car out from under me before I can finish the deal (long story)

I've been helping restore classic cars with friends of mine for some time, mostly restomod Mustangs. The term pro-touring is somewhat new to me but the idea is not. I've always felt if a car can be made better with modern technology then there's no reason it shouldn't. I like how people think around here!

Welcome to the site... all the cars you listed would be very cool, but rather than an Australian Falcon, ever consider a '72 Torino Sport... It'd look killer:

Yeah, Torinos have crossed my mind although I have to say I'm a little more partial to the 70-71's. I just haven't been able to find any of those in decent shape either.

Looks like you're on old Buick guy too? I've eyeballed more than a couple 66/67 Skylark/GS/Specials and may still go for one eventually if I decide to do a big block car ever. Mean looking rides!

I actually thought I was about to buy a 76 XB transition car and then the guy sold it out from under me. After I had a deposit down on it and everything! It was solid, had 4 wheel disc brakes (factory standard), Tremec 5sp, and good paint and interior. I was ready to shoot myself for missing that one.

Well I wound up buying a 1970 Mach 1. Totally solid CA car. I got it from a guy in Chicago. I went out and picked it up this past weekend and drove it home. I've never driven one before but have always liked the looks of the 69/70 fastbacks, and the price was right and this car is very original and has never been restored, nor is it even close to needing to be restored.

I'm going to get the mechanicals up to where I want them and then paint the car, probably next winter sometime. It's got an auto which will have to go in favor of a 5sp, switch the 3.00 rear for a 3.50 posi, get disc brakes, lower the suspension, tubular control arms, subframe connectors, build up the engine, etc. It'll be a mean ride when I'm done with it. I'm considering an IRS conversion for it too but I'm not sure on that one yet.
