LOL reminds me of a time when I worked at a Firestone they had a customer call and ask for a price on a brake job and they gave him a quote. Then the guy asked if he brought the parts in how much would the shop charge to put them on.The response given was when you go to eat at Denny's do you take your own bacon and eggs and have them cook it for you?

I work with people like that!! I have also seen it at a shop I used to go help at.
I often use this scenario in the IT world. Don't tell me how to code the application or build the infrastructure. Tell me what you need and I will figure out the how.
Any service level business probably gets sismilar interactions.

As a one time mechanic that is so true. I would add one thing, the customer would try to get one of the shop techs to do the work on the side behind the owners back for even less money and bitch even louder. Now I remember why I don't work on Joe Average's POS anymore.

That's the reason I don't work on other peoples cars for a living.
I have more sympathy for someone on the side of the road begging for help for free than someone who wants to act like they are doing me a favor by paying my 1/4 of what they get charged at a shop and want me to fix all of the other things that need to be fixed for free because they are there and then still not be happy when it is all done because it took too long or cost too much.
It's all about karma if I work on someone else car. I don't wan't money because it causes problems. I figure somewhere someday if I'm lucky and need help I might get it. It's worked good for many years and people have always been good to me whether I was helping them or they were helping me.
I had to laugh when the guy said he had spent more on the car than it was worth! It's so typical of people living on the edge reality.

I don't really agree with that statement.... Eggs come from chickens... bacon comes from pigs... That's been the staple for 100's of years.... If you don't like the way Denny's cooks it, whatever, but the ingredients don't change much, go somewhere else.
But when I drop off my truck to get an oil change, I want to know they're not putting a POS Fram filter on it. As far as I'm concerned I'm better off with an old soup can and a piece of cardboard wound up in it than a Fram filter. So I bring my own AC Delco, because I at least KNOW that meets the factory standard.
Same thing goes for anything else they're putting on my car. I do most of my own work, but I have to drop the car off to get it done, and I don't like a certain part their putting on it, or it doesn't come with a warranty, why should I dump that kinda of money into it?
The video was funny and true, but I don't agree with your scenario above. We're talking about a $5 breakfast, vs. the price, quality, and selection of car parts available.
