For the record I talked to the very nice lady answering the phones, and for about a 45 minutes even.
Turns out the company is ran by grandson of Autometer founder, and they are offering USA made gauges , cistomer configurable kits.
You can get your car project name put in them or a custom logo of your business even.
The GPS speedos eliminate any connection issues, unless we get hit by nuclear blast killing GPS signals or satellites.
The neat thing I was mentioning/asking about was using the 3600psi gauge in brakes which can be done.
The other thing I mentioned was it lists the speedo as being able to do 1/4 mi times and speed, so I mentioned it would be nice to have 1/8th mile too and was told after she submitted it, while on the phone, that it could be swapped or even added so as to have both capabilities in the gauge.
I was asking her to have their marketing come look over us and maybe be a small presence here.
Heck if we can get some people interested maybe even a group by pricing, who knows.
But life time warranty, customizable and all sounds like a great part that would fit right in.
So here it is again:

I was just cheking them out last night. I really like how clean the revolution series looks but wish they offered them in a five inch speedo/tach.

I went with speedhut for my camaro and they look great!! I put '2nd Gen' on the gauge cuz I haven't figured out a name for the car yet. I figured it will always be a second gen car and couldn't lose by using that on the gauges!! I don't think you can lose and they are HUNDREDS of $$ cheaper than Autometer.
This is no knock on Autometer but the customizable fonts, colors, and backgrounds with speedhut is awesome!!
I will post some pics of the setup in my bezel later tonight

I just bought a set about a month ago. I ordered them with-out the R and the speedhut logo on the bottom for a cleaner look.
Black face with white numbers that light up blue at night and a red needle to see better with.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/dad-1.jpg
The wiring is really simple. All plugs together.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/downsized_1230001724a1-1.jpg
All the gauges have lights that warn you when something is out of the normal operation range. You can set the light to come on when the oil pressure drops to low or gets to hi. That goes for all gauges.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/1230001724-1.jpg
The speedo I bought goes to 200mph and is GPS controlled. The little screen on the bottom has 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, GPS time clock, elevation, compass direction, speed in LCD, peek speed recall, and turn signal with high beam indicator.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/1230001722-1.jpg
8000 rpm Progressive Shift dial (3 super bright LEDs).
Settable shift point. Peak RPM recall.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/1230001722a-1.jpg
All the sensors included with plug and play plugs.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/1230001726-1.jpg
The plug in wires can be mounted in the dash or under for simple control changes to gauges.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/12/1230001729-1.jpg
The really cool thing is all the lights connect to this little red and white wire with plugs and are all controlled with the little knob control. The GPS wire is pretty long to place anywhere you need.

I've had Speedhut in my bookmarks for a while now. As soon as I saw their gauges, I knew they were the ones I was going to be going with. I love the idea of having the signals and highbeam on the speedo.

Found the price. I like them. I wonder if they can do a dual color face. Would like them to look somewhat like the stock Monte did. Like this:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/01/BtWwMBmkKGrHqZlcEyjCzJ5oBM9c43l_12JPG-1.jpg
With 55 orange & the KMH speed in orange too.
But then my other problem is the gauges other than speedo & tach need to be smaller than 2" so I can fit all in near stock location:https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/01/8583d1121482968latemodelmontecarlossgbod-1.jpg

Scott, you might want to call Speedhut and ask them about that.
They have many options but I didnt see anything about dual colors.

Great pics 67 ls1! You went all out! I was incredibly happy with the nice price. Here are some pics of my gauges (speedhut) in an aftermarket bezel with pre cut out holes. 67, I went with the black face, white numbers and cobalt blue lighting(night) and red indicator too.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2011/01/IMAG0049-1.jpg
Note that the small gauges threaded rings touch each other. The holes were so close I almost didn't get them in the bezel. I would recommend that If you are going with an aftermarket bezel don't get one with the holes already cut.

Not bad looking in the dash either.
It seems that these guys are pretty open minded and willing to hear your ideas.

Wow! These are really nice!!
These look great and the added features are a great idea. I'm thinking these guys and New Vintage USA are on to something with their easily customizable gauge faces. That's one of the biggest down sides to me about Autometer, their names is splashed all across the front. They make great stuff but I'd rather not see the word Autometer six times across my dash.

Any input on GPS install & performance yet?
This is form their instructions "For best performance mount GPS antenna with as much view of sky as possible. Preferably on roof of car. Antenna is waterproof and magnetic. If roof is not accessible mount antenna on top of car dash with as much exposure through window as possible to sky."
I'm intrigued with all the cool little things it does, despite knowing I'll use those buttons like 10 times lol

I'd like to know how the GPS function is working as well. For example, if you enter a tunnel or drive in the city (with tall buildings that interrupt the signal) does the speedo signal drop to zero until a signal is regained? Does it freeze at the last known speed? (needs at least two good sat signals for speed).
FYI, my GPS receiver for my C5 is mounted on my dash next to the hud. I've had friends mount theirs UNDER the dash as well with no noticeable reception problems. I never found a need to put it outside the car. I imagine on an older car there is more steel in the way, however. Under the rear window on or under the deck would be my first choice.
I like these Speedhut gauges very much.

I was just looking at these last night. I searched P-T.com to see any reports on them and saw where someone got some on a Labor Day 20% off sale. I emailed them to see if any sales like that were coming up. They said they usually do a Labor Day and Memorial Day sale. Looks like I'm going to end up with some new gauges if it's another 20% off sale.
Hi John,
Yes, I believe we do offer a Memorial day and possibly even a labor day sale. We should be sending a newsletter out with our newest sale (March sale) before it starts on the 15th. Unfortunately, we don't know details on sales until they are posted.
Thanks,
Julianna

This is the route I plan to take b/c I planned to update my gauges anyway to switch to an electronic speedo b/c of my T56 but the GPS feature simplifies it. I'm also planning to run their quad gauge as well.

I ordered a complete set of Speedhut Revolution series gauges last Summer. They customized the Z28 lettering to match the style on my '79, and made the 4" GPS speedo with KmPh and matching red lettering for MPH in smaller font, just like the factory. Great service, beautiful gauges, excellent warranty and friendly, helpful stuff. I recommend them to anyone who is in the market for stylish quality gauges.

BonzoHansen,
Not installed yet, so I can't say. Speedhut does have a video of a racecar using their GPS speedo at the track, I couldn't see any problems concerning dropouts while it did multiple laps.
The GPS guage comes with wiring that allows you to power the gauge continuously, so that there isn't any acquisition time at start up. Only draws a few milliamps so no problem with battery drain.

I've got their tach and GPS speedo in the car for over a year. Both are very nice and very accurate. The customer service can't be beaten. I can't say regarding city driving since I live in Arkansas and we don't exactly have a lot of metropolitan areas. It's fine in downtown Little Rock but that's not a "lot" of tall buildings. They did tell me that you will lose it in the tunnel which is to be expected.

Great to hear. What about the GPS antenna? How/where did you mount it?
TD509EFI
03-16-2011, 04:06 PM
Scott,
I'm mounting mine under the rear window. They have more than enough cable to reach back there.
The active GPS that Speedhut uses is much better at acquiring signals than lets say, a GPS navigation device. People I've talked to haven't had trouble with tall buildings ( though I don't know about NY) trees, or mountains. Tunnels and parkades are the only problems that comes to mind.

I am working with Speedhut right now to retro-fit some gauges for the Camaro. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff - esp considering I'm asking for something completely custom. So...with the GPS speedo.....there's no need to wire it to a VSS? Do I have that correct?
chuckd71
10-19-2011, 09:32 AM
Basw, what are you putting them in?
I can't see any way that you could wire the gps speedo to the vss. If you're doing the LS thing your pcm needs the vss signal though.
Some other guy on ls1tech put these in his chevelle, I'm working on mine and doing basically the same thing. It's a pretty easy job it seems, it's just a kind of 'work with what you have' type of project. Will never use autometer stuff again.

VSS?
I have a full set of these Speed Huts with the GPS speedo.. and will be installing them over the next few weeks.. so I will update my build thread with the info. They do look great in the box though. lol
I like the fact you can completely customize these, w/o gaudy brand name logos. Speed Hut is one of those companies that you like to support... US made and great service.

My Viper T-56 has a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) in the tailshaft to keep the EFI and speedo up to date with the vehicle's speed.

No need for the VSS when you use the GPS speedo. Lets me use the VSS for cruise control or engine management.
