I have tried finding any info on this and not sure what to do...

I have a 69 Camaro with a 396 and the crank pulley is about an 1/8" from the lower subframe. Someone said space them out on another forum but there is already a clearance issue with the drivers side valve cover and brake booster. Is this normal or should I look at some short valve covers and space the motor up 1/4" or is there a different crank pulley to use.... Lower pulley is 7.5" with a triple groove. I am only running an alternator and a power steering pump. Any help would be great

I ran my BBC with that pulley for a long time with the 1/8" clearance. Put in a set of poly motor and transmission mounts and don't worry about it.

it just seems really close and to replace a belt would be a pain... Is there a underdrive pulley out there? I like the serpentine system but a grand or so would eat my wheel budget. Thanks for the help

Yes replacing the belt is a pain, but its only three bolts to remove the pulley. I'm not sure, but I seem to recall that the original BB cars had a different crossmember, perhaps it drops the trans down a bit more than the SBC setup. I know I had to fight to get the bolts in on the trans mount.
