wire loom?

I have noticed in some engine and build pics that some guys are using a wire loom that looks like the black braided -AN lines. Anyone know what this stuff is?

The split braided loom is pretty cool and Pricey. It does hold up well to heat. I run it between the header tubes without melting. The Painless loom is reasonably price and is what I use now. The 1/4 and 1/2 inch work for most of your looms. The 1/8 inch is only good for single 18 gauge wires.

I don't like the split braided stuff. I carry the full braided vinyl flex sleeving for my wire harnesses. I also have fiberglass sleeving that protects up to 1200F. There are several OD's you can choose from too. I use the flex braiding for my wire harnesses using cross-link thin and heavy wall wiring and it resists temps up to 257F which exceeds J1128 specs.

I would try the F6 wire loom from http://www.wirecare.com/products.asp?prodline=F6N. This is the same stuff Painless uses.

I found the same F6 stuff on Amazon for less then $1 @ ft. (Techflex 1/2" F6 Split Sleeving 25 ft. Black $20.10 ) They have other sizes.

If you want a local source for the braided loom, SMI Industrial Electronics on 64th in Langley carries a fairly good selection sold by the foot. They are just east of 200th, in the same complex as Metal Mart. There not the cheapest compared to mail order, but handy especially if you don't need a lot.

They are just east of 200th, in the same complex as Metal Mart. There not the cheapest compared to mail order, but handy especially if you don't need a lot.


Awesome mike68 thanks i will check them out i know exactly where you are talkin about. I bout some at Mopac but have not opened the packs yet. they were 17-22 bucks depending on the dia of the loom and were 10 foot lengths so i will compare pricing.

Thanks for the link, I just ordered a few different sizes. It was pretty cheap so we'll see how good the quality is when it shows up.

Mcmaster Carr has a good selection of Loom that is temp resistant some up to 1500*

The silica based stuff isn't too expensive about $5 / ft for 1" ID.
