There must be such a thing....unlike the Superbike racing days I for sure wont have any crew logging laps and showing me a sign board each lap so I'll have to do it myself.....is there any electronic gizmo's out there that do such a thing that you guys have tried/use??....Im looking for something I can stick/mount on the dash that will allow me to see every lap in real time.

Google Hot Lap timer. There are others, but that seems to be one of the most reasonably priced.

Seems to work from the beacon at the start/finish line.....I would wonder if the track is just being rented out by a bunch of guys would the beacon even be turned on....all I could really find on the Hot Lap was this article on the various problems with it http://www.advantagemotorsports.com/Lap%20Timing.htm
I was looking at the GTech-Pro RR http://www.gtechpro.com/rr_fanatic.html works from a GPS mounted inside the device..wouldnt need a beacon from the track....anyone use this??

A Racepak will get you what you want and a lot more. There are several systems that do what you want.

I bought a Racechrono and had mostly good luck with it (didn't work for some reason on my last track day of the year, Nov. 1 at Laguna Seca). It's GPS so no beacon needed. there is also a primitive (but usable) piece of software to create video overlays of the data. check it out here: http://racechrono.com.au/ you can see a video with the data overlay on my blog here: http://asifnyc.com/?p=570

If you are not after 1/100sec accuracy there are some apps for iphones and android phones (Trackmaster for the Android) that do work well. for $10 it works really well and at least with Trackmaster it can be used with a $60 bluetooth gps unit mounted to the windshield to get a faster sampling rate. Now if cost is not the issue, a Traqmate system gives you lap times and more useful data logging.
