New Floors, smoothed firewall, fixed all crappy factory welds, filled in sidemarkers, and antena. oh yea! and took off about 60+ pounds of Bondo, and replace a lot of metal, just have to order the 6.1 setup and the AlterKtion, and win the lottery to finnish...

I'm also building a 68 Charger. I would recommend AMD Metal for the replacement parts. Real Quality stuff! There is a guy here who sells it, but I can't remember his name.... just remembered elitecustombody.... He's got a supra in his sig. Keep up the good work!!

I used AMD metal, I have become friends with Robert at Purposebuilt, he has the GTB Charger. and he has hooked me up with all the metal so far, where do you live, how are you building your 68?

Yeah Goose - same thing happened to me. Solid floors so I thought, until we started grinding on them. Prior owner filled holes w fiberglass and covered it up bondo/paint. Nice little detour on the way to more important plans....

Checkout these mirros I just got for the charger, they are NOS, have been in storage for over 40 years, they are BRAND NEW, even the Box is perfect condition, bought them from a 90 year old guy who used to be a Euporean car parts importer, now just has a ton of stuff in a storage unit, Can wait to get them on car, of course after engine, trans, brakes, all plumbing , and electrical....etc

I did a trade for Labor with my Body guy,but he is very fair.. he doesn't charge by the Hour he charges by the Job usually, but I can tell you for my job, it = Media blasting, new floors, smoothed firewall, front frame rails repaired, all factory welds ground and redone, welded closed side markers, antenna, and mirror holes, lower Qtrs, and removal of about 60lbs of bondo and heating and hammering a lot of pannels, then he will also be doing all the paint and painting a lot of the trim work, and unercoating the car, this worl have cost about 16-18K
go-fish
03-18-2011, 08:53 AM
That price sounds fair for all of that. I have some hidden rust near the glass channels but other than that it doesn't have much rust. It may need the trunk extension panels and left side lower 1/4 (behind wheel, up to 10" up).
Is your guy in Anaheim? What kind of media does he use? Corn cob, walnut, plastic media?
I would be very interested in media blasting, body work, relocating the antenna hole, and the seem welding like he did on yours. These old Mopars are pretty "loose" from the factory.
Can I get his contact info? I've been shopping Best of Show too.

4831348313Thanks guys, first let me say that the car isn't that heavy, so you understand the rest.. I was at the front of the car lifing it when my dad was putting the jack stand (lying on side by door) and when the rear let go it just dropped 10 inches and I lifted front end while my dad slid out, the only damage was the hood (not in pic) it was on the roof and slid off and dented conner, yes and when the door opened it slid down door and missed fathers leggs, body and frame are still good, test fit went well.

07-24-2011, 03:15 PM
put that motor in from the bottom next time so you don't have that problem that's pretty scary stuff.
Pick the front of the car up with the hoist and roll the motor under it I did mine that way after the paint was done and never unbolted the hood .

We did put the motorin from the bottom, you might see the rolling cart back by the trans, but when it was up on the jack stands I used the engine hoist to pull it up, this was for the first fit, I had to trim some metal so I needed to move engine and trans around to mark cuts.

OK Guys, I have sent the car to 401K Hotrod shop here in Anaheim, they will be completing the build, thanks to a awesome gift from my wife, I think the shop was in shock with all the parts I had, and how detailed I kept everything, they are in the process of doing the true test fit of the drive train, and and welding the XV subframe connectors in when weight is sprung, then take it apart then off to my paint guy for undercoating, engine bay and jambs, then back to 401K for final build, I am bumbed that I am not doing it all, but after the car almost crushed my dad (fell off jack stand) I relized that this RT 66 project we are doing wouldn't mean anything without him.

Well Speedfreak..as far as done quicker than yours....my delay seems to be my paint and body guy, and it is now back with him for undercoating interior coating and engine bay painting, so....I am prying it is back at build shop (401K) before end of Nov.
As for the tires and rims, they are the ones that came with the car, not what I am planning on using, now that being said, if I am out of money when it comes to that they WILL be the tries and rims, otherwise I plan on selling them.
speedfreak68
11-06-2011, 04:10 PM
well, if you are don't have the funds for new rims, maybe just powdercoat the ones you have. They may turn out pretty good. The only hold up with my car is me....not working on it..... But looking at yours has definitely given me some motivation.

SO I am wondering do I really need the molding back on the car?? or can I go with out it?
Motorcitydak
05-19-2012, 02:14 AM
Which molding are you talking about? I think any of it can be deleted as long as your body work is not done
skigoose
05-22-2012, 12:12 PM
I am thinking the stuff around the doors (Windows) I am missing the passengers side molding that goes above the door, I think this holds the seal for the windows, I am also thinking about leaving the drip rails body color, I can still fill the holes on the top of the door for the moldings, as for the windows I think I have to use trim molding.
Motorcitydak
05-22-2012, 06:37 PM
I am not 100% on what does hold in the window seals but I did ask that exact question. I was told that the window molding can be deleted by just welding in all those holes. This is also what I plan on doing. I think the seals fit inside the door and quarter, just not sure how. If you just want to keep the trim in the doors, let me know. Im pretty sure I have all the trim pieces from my car still. As for the drip rails, these cars really do look nice with them shaved off completely. That may allow some rain water to get in the top of the seals if you are driving around in the rain but I am fine with that. Here is a shot of mine with them cut off
