AUGUSTA, Ga. - A U.S. Marine reservist collecting toys for children was stabbed when he helped stop a suspected shoplifter in eastern Georgia.
Best Buy sales manager Orvin Smith told The Augusta Chronicle that man was seen on surveillance cameras Friday putting a laptop under his jacket at the Augusta store.
When confronted, the man became irate, knocked down an employee, pulled a knife and ran toward the door. Outside were four Marines collecting toys for the service branch's "Toys For Tots" program.
Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back. The cut did not appear to be severe.
The suspect was transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken leg, broken ribs and assorted lacerations and bruises he obtained when he fell trying to run after stabbing the Marine.
The suspect, whose name was not released was held until police arrived. The Richmond County Sheriff's office said it is investigating.
Guess the old adage continues to be true:
If you are going to fight with a Marine, be prepared to take them all on!

I love it when scum bags fall down while trying run after being stupid...... Never ceases to amaze me how hard they can fall down breaking so many bones and getting all cut up ROFLMAO.
BTW I hope they give the Marines a metal along with a key to town for their appropriate response to the matter at hand.......

That's old school journalism, like back in my day when I first started in the newspaper business. I've seen more than one perp "bump" his head on the way into the back of the cruiser. I miss those days.

if I ever meet any of you in person... ask me about the guy who abused the 16 year old girl in the Bronx.....
Think of a momma bear protecting her cubs... + NYPD + 2 pair of handcuffs ++ said momma bear conveniently left alone for several minutes with handcuffed perpetrator while the officers arranged for transportation in another room out of sight..
Seen a lot of things in my time.... but the vengeance of a momma bear is in the top 5 let me tell you....

I dunno... the thing that makes it funny is the fictional part. I also suspect the comments coming from other posters were reacting to the imaginary injuries of the perp.
The original story was good enough for me: a group of young Marines snagged a bad guy, even though he had a knife, and one Marine was slightly injured. Why the need to invent the rest?

When I was in the Marine Corps, we would get into bar fights (frequently, unfortunately) and it is a true statement--pick a fight with one, get them all. This was 15 years ago though when guns at fights weren't as common as they are today. You would be a fool to pick a fight like that today. Then it was just good fun, today it is asking to get shot or stabbed.
And you are probably right John, the comments are more than likely on the embellished story.

Well most Marines I know would have at least made him not have an unbruised place to lay if he cut a fellow soldier, and if he had fell running after a Marine I'm sure the other Marines might just help him up, and down, and up and down, and so on and so forth.
I never made it to military, me and recruiter had issues, he lied about giving me credit for college credits earned and military wouldnt, so I didnt.
But most of my customers who are in the military have a hard time understanding why I shake their hands and thank them.

It's always a feel-good story when the bad guys get a double serving of whoopazz.
