My current project is a 94 trans am thats full injected. I am a fan of carbs therefore I want to switch it over, but is it worth it? Is it worth switching over and having to deal with the computer and the electronic distributor? and would I even be able to get the same performance out of an performance injection compared to the carb.

Do you live in California? If so...California (wannabe police-state that it is) has made it mandatory to use 10% Ethanol in all fuels (87,89,91). They want to go to 15% in the upcoming year. I assume other states will follow as they usually do.

Why do I bring up this point?

If you are planning to drive this car on the street, and fill it with pump gas, the ethanol is going to give you all sorts of drive-ability issues that a carb can rarely tune out. Dieseling, fuel percolation, increased vapor-lock, rough idle, fuel tank/line corrosion, low-rpm torque loss, and poor fuel economy are all symptoms that come with an ethanol/gasoline mixture in a system designed for use with pure gasoline.

If I were to build my Camaro over-again there would be no question that I would go with an LS engine for these reasons...or AT LEAST a FAST EZ-EFI throttle body injection system for my SBC Gen 1. I suggest you do the same unless you know that you are using 100% gasoline.

With fuel injection (assuming it is tuned professionally and matched to the engine) you will actually gain a noticeable amount of low-midrange torque, throttle response, and drive-ability over a carburetor. In some cases, a carb is worth a few ponies on the top end (but unless you're flat out racing it's not enough to matter). The average torque #'s that you gain from fuel injection are well worth the sacrifice.
