So I went to replace my aluminum flywheel with a steel unit. Now my GM Mini Starter is hitting the flywheel. I need a couple more of those round shims. Does any know where to get them? I found some tilton ones at summit that look close but I'm not sure if they are exact? Help!

When I was building my '70 I had to do a wild goose chase to get a hold of the original manufacturer of the starter. After calling from one place to another I was able to get their number, should be able to order new shims no problem. I will get you the # tomorrow/later today.

Is the flywheel on the right way?

I laughed at first but I could see someone doing that... Yeah, it's on the right way. What is rediculous is that this is the 3rd flywheel that has been on the car and I have never had this problem in the past. I even had my parts guy pull another one and it also didn't fit. Before this I had a GM flywheel and then a RAM aluminum wheel. Neither of those had an issue. Lame.

What about a different flywheel for different year cranks? I've had to shim my gm mini starter between engines but only adding one shim and removing.

This is on a 1 piece rear main GM 383.

14088648

14" Standard Steel Flywheel.

This should be the right one correct?

Should work fine that starter is highly adjustable and works with 153 and 168 tooth flywheels (as per manual). I have a 1 piece zz383 w/ flywheel and the starter works great with it.

The direct Manufacturer phone # is 1-800-521-1005
