I've searched here and other sites for hours over the past few weeks and can't seem to find what I am looking for so I thought I'd try one last time with a post.

I am looking for 18" wheels for my 68 Chevelle SS. On this car I like more traditional 5 spoke designs. My research turned up lots of wheels that are more expensive than I care to spend and are very heavy to boot.

I was all set to order some Centerline Retros which fit all of my criteria perfectly, but a google search on "Centerline Customer Service" scared me. I found many examples of how terrible they are and nothing good. If they are a bad company to deal with I do not want to risk it.

So, any ideas?

Billet Specialties has a new line of wheels that come in 18's and are about that price range. Also Pro Wheels would be a good bet (contact Nineball).

I bought my 17" Retro's from CenterLine, and I got great customer service.
They actually arrived at my door 2 days earlier than the 3 week window we had discussed.
I had fast follow-up with the salesperson, and had e-mail and tracking #s the second they were boxed up. :twothumbs:

The Billet Specialties are prob a hair lighter, a friend bought some Billet Speciatles Rallye, but they stop at 17".
They have a newer design: 'Mag' in polished or gray center:

DriverzInc may have a sale coming up, and THAT would be an offer you cannot refuse.
Just a month after I bought mine, they had a sale... timing is everything.

Billet Specialties is a good way to go for 18's. www.driverzinc.com for pricing. New site has been under construction, but a lot is already up there.

I purchased directly from Centerline with great customer service, but that was 5 years ago.

What size wheels/tires? I'd like to run a 245/40R18 on front, but I'm concerned about the 4.5" backspacing with an 8" wide rim.

I ran into a problem with centerline being really slow too to build me a some Telstars and got them in poor condition. They told me it was due to there hoop supplier going bankrupt and they made the hoops in house. They took the wheels back and paid shipping and then sent me new ones in excellent condition, but they weren't even stamped with the centerline logo. This was about a year ago and I never had a problem with customer service.

In the past I have never had problems with then, so it was probably just a short run.

Look at Pro Wheels on our website. You will be hard pressed to find a all billet 2 piece welded wheel, priced like these, with big brake clearnace and all the other features associated with much more expensive wheels.

Thanks for the referral! For forged wheels, it doesn't get any cheaper than Pro Wheels. Some of these other brands utilize a cast aluminum center with a forged hoop to keep the prices down. It all depends on what you want in a wheel. I'd recommend the Pro Wheels "Jet5" model for your Chevelle, already had one customer put a set of 18s on his.

Good info here. I already had spoken directly with Billet Specialties and was told the "Dyno" wheel is 29# in a 18x8. They mentioned another model in 18", but it was only 1# lighter.

I am interested in the Pro Wheels Jet5 listed above. Anyone know the weight on these and where they are made? I'll follow up direct with the vendors on pricing.

Thanks for the ideas! I want to get something on order ASAP.

i'd say pro wheels and esajian are two of the lower priced 2PC forged offerings. also american eagle has a few 2PC'ers as well.

Hello,

Lots of choices in wheels no doubt! I recently started carrying Boyds Wheels and I believe that the new Vintage 5 is going to be a very popular wheel not only looks w/ several different finish options, but the price is right! The Vintage 5 is a cast center mated to a 6061-T6 Aluminum Smooth Lip Rim. The company does state that this wheel is light and I can find out the weight for you.

Since you are a member on this forum I am ready to offer Forum member special pricing. I have PM'd you a price on a set of 18x8, 18x10 Polished Vintage 5's.

If you do not like this particular design then I can quote you on a set of Billet Specialties, Bonspeed, and Colorado Custom.

Since the Vintage 5 is brand new all I can show as a pic is the following link: http://www.billetwheel.com/vintage5.html

All the billet 2 piece wheels are going to have very similar weights in the mid to high 20LB range. Unless your looking to race Grand Am series, wheels weight is not a huge priority for a street car / occasional track car. Wheels style (how much is cut out) will have a lot to do with the weight. A tremendouns amount of the wheel weight is in the mounting pad, and a wheels designed to clear big brakes have a high pad. With Pro Wheels we have pads all the way up to 4", the "normal" pad starts at 2" which will clear most big brakes. We can control that pad height a bit, but you can only mill the pad so far before the lugs start sticking out of the wheel and look goofy.

If your worried about weight you must plan to push the car at some point. A bodies are heavy cars, I would worry about construction first, weight second. So you need a billet wheel, period!
