Hey guys, trying to find out if any or all LS motors that were pulled out of wrecked, salvaged cars and trucks come with VIN number plate or stamp somewhere on the block. There is a swap out of 09 Escalade I came across somewhat semi-local and wouldn't want to end up with some stolen swap.
Thanks in advance.

If it was put into a car on the assembly line, it will have the VIN on the engine. Always good to check first, your local police dept should be able to help.

Are you positive that it will have VIN on the motor? If so, where would it be?A friend of mine who's a cop will run that number

There is a laser printed sticker somewhere on the drivers side of the block. And then there is an etched number above the oil filter.

When they built my corvette in 2008, I went to the factory to see it built. On the tour, they showed us itching the vin on the right head, so look there also.

Doing a vin check is always a good idea....also document all your parts receipts.

Bill, do you know if it was a full VIN or partial? I'm sure I will need a full VIN to be able to run it

If you have a TechII, you can hook it up to the ECM and get the VIN that way...just have to have power to the computer.

As far as I know , all the engines have the VIN ( of the vehicle they were installed in) , on the engine.
PM me the VIN and I'll tell you what it came out of ..
I can even run a VIS report and tell where the vehicle was originally sold ( the original selling dealer )
Now , as far as the stolen part , you'll have to give the VIN to the police to have that info checked .
