I have the opportunity to buy ls2 243 heads for $500 for the pair assembled. My question is should I switch or keep the 241's. I have a 70 chevelle with an 04 gto ls1. I am not wanting to set the world a fire with it but just a nice driver with an occasional auto cross or dragstrip run. I was hoping for around 400 rwhp with it with cam and other upgrades, will I be able to get that with the 241 or will I need the 243.

I'd figure on a 15-20rw gain with the 243s. If you had them cnc ported, figure a 35-40rw gain with a good cam. You should be able to hit 400 rw with the 241s and a big cam.

The 243 LS6 heads are batter than 241s. I am not sure how good of a deal you got there, but its a good upgrade. Don't go too wild on the cam.

The $500 is for a brand new pair. Cheapest I could find anywhere else was $640 for the pair.

Don't rule out ported 241's. I picked up a set of Lloyd Elliot Stage 2 ported 241's for $300 from a local forum. For the price they're fantastic. They out flow the 243's by a healthy margin.
If you're wanting to go with stock castings, widen your search to the 799's. It's the same port and a similar combustion chamber when compared to the 243.
