Okay, this a really getting stupid now.

UPDATE: I’m getting a lot of emails asking if this is actually true and is this person actually someone I know. (1) Yes it is true it is too absurd to be made up. (2) Yes, I know the person.

A friend of mine sent me this about his TSA experience. He, unlike most of us, was coming back into the country from Afghanistan on a military charter.

As the Chalk Leader for my flight home from Afghanistan, I witnessed the following:

When we were on our way back from Afghanistan, we flew out of Baghram Air Field. We went through customs at BAF, full body scanners (no groping), had all of our bags searched, the whole nine yards.

Our first stop was Shannon, Ireland to refuel. After that, we had to stop at Indianapolis, Indiana to drop off about 100 folks from the Indiana National Guard. That’s where the stupid started.

First, everyone was forced to get off the plane–even though the plane wasn’t refueling again. All 330 people got off that plane, rather than let the 100 people from the ING get off. We were filed from the plane to a holding area. No vending machines, no means of escape. Only a male/female latrine.

It’s probably important to mention that we were ALL carrying weapons. Everyone was carrying an M4 Carbine (rifle) and some, like me, were also carrying an M9 pistol. Oh, and our gunners had M-240B machine guns. Of course, the weapons weren’t loaded. And we had been cleared of all ammo well before we even got to customs at Baghram, then AGAIN at customs.

The TSA personnel at the airport seriously considered making us unload all of the baggage from the SECURE cargo hold to have it reinspected. Keep in mind, this cargo had been unpacked, inspected piece by piece by U.S. Customs officials, resealed and had bomb-sniffing dogs give it a one-hour run through. After two hours of sitting in this holding area, the TSA decided not to reinspect our Cargo–just to inspect us again: Soldiers on the way home from war, who had already been inspected, reinspected and kept in a SECURE holding area for 2 hours. Ok, whatever. So we lined up to go through security AGAIN.

This is probably another good time to remind you all that all of us were carrying actual assault rifles, and some of us were also carrying pistols.

So we’re in line, going through one at a time. One of our Soldiers had his Gerber multi-tool. TSA confiscated it. Kind of ridiculous, but it gets better. A few minutes later, a guy empties his pockets and has a pair of nail clippers. Nail clippers. TSA informs the Soldier that they’re going to confiscate his nail clippers. The conversation went something like this:

TSA Guy: You can’t take those on the plane.

Soldier: What? I’ve had them since we left country.

TSA Guy: You’re not suppose to have them.

Soldier: Why?

TSA Guy: They can be used as a weapon.

Soldier: [touches butt stock of the rifle] But this actually is a weapon. And I’m allowed to take it on.

TSA Guy: Yeah but you can’t use it to take over the plane. You don’t have bullets.

Soldier: And I can take over the plane with nail clippers?

TSA Guy: [awkward silence]

Me: Dude, just give him your damn nail clippers so we can get the f**k out of here. I’ll buy you a new set.

Soldier: [hands nail clippers to TSA guy, makes it through security]

This might be a good time to remind everyone that approximately 233 people re-boarded that plane with assault rifles, pistols, and machine guns–but nothing that could have been used as a weapon.

That's pretty funny telling a man that is trained to beat you to death with an unloaded rifle that his nail clippers are a threat,LOL.

Glad you got him to let it go but it sure is sad.

Thanks for the info about how they are doing their job. Totally rediculous.

Hey , what will they do in case of an emergency and want you guy's to show up to cover their butt's? Are they going to search you and then let you do your job?

When they go after you guy's it really makes me know how stupid they think the public is and unfortunately they are probably right?

Take care

Good article on this subject:
http://oudaily.com/news/2010/dec/06/column-nude-awakening-tsa-and-privacy/

...The risk of a terrorist attack is so infinitesimal and its impact so relatively insignificant that it doesn't make rational sense to accept the suspension of liberty for the sake of avoiding a statistical anomaly. There's no purpose in security if it debases the very life it intends to protect, yet the forced choice one has to make between privacy and travel does just that...

The TSA would save more lives at this point if they started taking people's blood pressure and asking them to go see their doctor if it was above normal. Than the obtrusive policies that do an insignificant amount to make us safer, they are currently coming up with.

A plane full of men trained to kill with their bare hands, carrying weapons, equivalent to having 200+ air marshalls aboard.
Those nail-clippers could be a real threat.... :lmao:
I'd only keep an eye out if this guy gets on board with one:

Imagine what you could do with a Braun nose hair clipper! You could terrorize an entire airport!

You should send that to the TSA complaints and suggestions department https://contact.tsa.dhs.gov/DynaForm.aspx?FormID=20 not that it will do any good.

Stupid question...err stupid in the sense of why, but Why are soliders being put through this nonsense??

That whole post gives me the sense that TSA is perfectly fine with everyone fighting for our country, but some are still potential flight risks?? It just doesnt make sense and thats if we exclude the point that those "flight risks" are likely to just get pistol whipped to death if they try to use nail clippers to take over a plane

then again....wasn't it an army officer who went on jihad in Texas and shot all those people?
Maybe the TSA's philosophy is "don't trust anyone"....

If I ever fly again (doubtful, I refuse to subject myself to a warrantless illegal searches) I'll wear these...

By that logic, maybe TSA should talk our Military into not trusting soliders with weapons until their pushed out onto the battle field. lol

We're in Vegas for the weekend. Our son is taking an early flight out to get back for school, and forgets his keys in our hotel room. He's already gone through security when we get back to the airport with the keys. JUST a set of keys, on a keyring. The TSA guard at the checkpoint tells us our son will have to come back out and then wait in the LONG line again to go through security after we hand him the keys. He is literally standing where we can see him on the other side of the desk. TSA guy won't take the KEYS and HAND them to him, either. My wife starts joking about just throwing the keys over the desk to him, and the TSA guy puts his hand on his gun and starts getting REAL serious with her...

I'm just about to get "involved" (which would have probably landed all of us in jail), when a TSA supervisor (who thankfully recovered from the brain removal operation) comes up and offers to take the keys across to our son. The first guy just goes back to his post like nothing had happened... So is there a f*&%ing procedure to be followed, or not?!

I don't fly much, but it's real easy to get a gut-full of the attitude. Sorry it happened, but I DIDN'T FLY THE PLANE INTO THE BUILDING!
