I just moved my 220V 5hp compressor to my new home. Plugged it in and nothing. Checked wiring and current and voltage to lines and ground are correct. Reset button on motor does nothing and there is no sound when current applied . Nothing, zero, nadda. Stumped . I cleaned contacts of the pressure switch, etc....I would think that if it were just motor it would humm or something. Any ideas would love to hear them.Thx

IS the circuit a true 220? Check the breaker panel and make sure it's being fed from both bars. If I wasn't on vacation I'd come put an extra set of eyes on it. Sometimes that helps. I'lll be back home in CO on Monday and can take a look if you haven't figured the bugger out by then.

Good point. I used a smaller double 30A breaker to make room on my panel. Not using typical 220 breaker. I have checked everything over and over and figured it must be breaker related. Thanks for the offer to help. I'll let you know if it doesn't work out.

The smaller double breaker you are using only contacts one phase or one "leg" of the panel. If panel space is tight then use a tandem breaker. It will take up two slots and have a piggyback handle connecting the two outer breakers. You can call me at 310-218-2469 if you need more info. John

Here is the type of breaker you need if space is tight. https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The center two are your 220v and the outer are 120v. Some breakers will have the outside two handles connected but function the same way.

Got er done. I guess I know just enough electrical to be dangerous. You guys nailed it...taking current both from same current source. Easy fix...learn something new every day
