Hi got a 70 twin turbo mustang the car has been running rich for a while and now there is a light bit of smoke coming out of the valve covers. Iam thinking i washed the rings. Iam going to check the compression. So i had to stop by my local motor shop here on long island to pick some stuff up i dont want to mention any names. ( they do all types of race motors). I got quoted 3800 for new rings gaskets and a light honeing a freshing of the motor. Is this a good price? I got a bill mitchell man o war 427. its a 351w stroked.
Thanks for the help

no disasembley and reasembly. i thought the price would be more around 2500. what kind of price were you thinking of. i thought it was a litte high considering that the motor is only 11000 new.
Thanks for the help

That seems awfully high....
It was around 750 to bore, hone, deck, line hone, AND file fit rings. It doesn't take that much effort to pull the rotating assembly and redo the rings.

One more thing, is the engine out of the car already and all you're doing is dropping it off? Cause mine was straight machine work, no remove or install from vehicle. And I forgot I had new cam bearings installed too (I already had them, same with the rings so materials are not part of the price).

What does he consider freshing up? I think quote is little high myself!

checking all the tolrances such as valve springs, bearings, changing of the timing chain, oil pump. redoing the rings a light honeing repacing seals. and puting it back together. off the top of my head. Iam deff going to get other quotes.
