Just curious what people use on the inside of 1/4 panels, under structure, etc. when installing new sheet metal (if anything at all..) I'm about to do this, and everything has already been primed with epoxy primer. I remember looking through some of MCC projects and noticed they sprayed some kind of textured material, maybe sound deadener??? before re-installing the 1/4's. Just curious, let me know whet you've used, or recommend.
Thanks,

Im not sure as I've never installed complete quarters, but it seems to me a weld thru primer is all you need. If you have an epoxy primer, or other coating, it will contanimate the weld. I guess you could spray something on there, but keep the surrounding area that will be welded clean. I would keep at least a 1 inch space away from the weld area. You really don't want to risk the weld being contaminated. One, it will be weak and two, it can have little pin holes where the cantimation escaped. little pin holes are terrible for collecting moisture.
I would use weld thru primer. Weld the panels, do all of the metal work, then epoxy prime.. then use any fillers. The epoxy primer will lock in the bare metal work, and give a great surface for filler without worring about moisture getting behind the filler.
If your only talking about the structure under the panel being welded that is not part of the welding, then an epoxy primer would probably be the best.
again, Im not a expert by any means, but thats the process I would use.

My shop sprayed por 15 on the inner structures before installing the 1/4's and other various panels. I did not see if they taped off the areas to be welded, but im sure they didnt try to weld over the por 15. I wanted to do something to protect the metal while still accessible. por 15 is what they told me they usually use. I'm sure there are other options/opinions. Scott

Yes, that is what we did and yes scott is correct, we taped off the areas to be welded and treated those with weld through primer, then installed the panels, re primed and POR-15 in those areas. Best way we have found to do this.

I'm definitely going to use some good weld through primer on all the contact areas. My question was more related to the under structure and inside of the panel itself. I've seen a few people use a textured type of coating, almost like lizard skin, or some kind of under coating. I was thinking about doing the same, mainly for sound deadening purposes.

I have used a spray on bedliner for a couple of my cars. If you get the tintable kind you can color match it to your exterior color
