I want to ask for a new DVD player for xmas, hopefully.

I am looking at 3D TV's too, but I don't think the technology has settled down or is cheap enough. (Thinking of mid next year to replace the old projection TV)

At first I was thinking of asking for just a blueray player, but then was wondering if I should ask for a bluray with 3D player.

Whadda ya think? Does anyone know much about this year's batch of 3D TV's and DVD players?

am I safe buying a 3D player then waiting for the 3DTV's to come down in price?

What do you guys think?

I'm still not 100% certain that 3D is here to stay. I do think it's a novel idea, but it seems like the industry likes to flirt with the idea every few decades.
If it were my personal decision, I'd prefer a higher optioned standard Blueray player over a less optioned player with 3D (Assuming the same price range).

I personally would hold off, if 3D is for real it will settle some in price i would think. I just can't see myself sitting at home with 3D glasses on watching TV though.

how much are the glasses that go along with the 3d tv? i recall something like $100 a pair- the 3d glasses that Sega had available in 1987 for the Sega Master System cost less than that..
so don't forget to add in the cost of a few extra sets of those or you might be watching a totally badass 3d movie with only 2 of the people in the room able to see the 3d that you paid so much extra for.

Even the industry is getting tired of 3D. Supposedly Pioneer has a glasses-free 3D TV they have been showing off for a little while, and have invested tons of cash into. Everyone that has seen it has gone completely Apes#!t over it....but Pioneer is saying that their market research has shown public's interest in 3D is fading so incredibly fast they are shelving the TV. They have no plans on releasing it for sale.

If I were you, I would get a regular BluRay. Just make sure it has a USB or Ethernet port on it!

I just remember last year at xmas, there were a few 3d tv's, then it disappeared.

This year there is more, but the prices and TV's seem to be all over the map.

So maybe just getting a bluray DVD is the best idea, then wait until next year and see what happens with the TV's?

I'd hold off on the 3D stuff for now. Wait and watch and see what happens.
This is like the HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray deal ......it might not make it.

As for a high quality EXTREMELY well featured and reviewed Blu-Ray player.....
LG BD390 (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=LG+BD390&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=9035890543607559341&ei=_2frTODeJYXPnAfl_piQAg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDwQ8wIwAg#)

I did a ton of searching and review reading and this bad boy had the best reviews everywhere.
It was around $500 when it first came out. I've had it for almost a year now.
Wireless internet access, streaming Netflix, USB front port for watching downloaded flicks, etc.

3D is crap in theatres, and will be crap on TV.
It's just a gimmick to get people to spend more on tickets or hardware.

You don't need 3D to enjoy a good movie, and 3D will never make good a bad movie.
Directors like Friedkin or Carpenter think the same way...
Stay away of this BS and it will disapear like it did in the 50' or the 80'.

I've heard 3D video games are pretty awesome.

I needed a new TV anyway, so I got one w/ 3D on the way. I'll tell you how it is next week after I've got it all up and running.
