hey guys
i am having a problem with a quick ratio steering box that i had purchased about 5 years ago from agr and had it in the car and pulled out because of this problem but now im tired of looking at it and want to fix it. it iwas in my 68 camaro and i have the gm serpentine drive system on it with a 92 caprice pump. So here is how things went down 3 years ago when i pulled the agr box out. i was backing out of my driveway and the wheel literally got ripped from my hands and went left. while the car was still running a buddy and i tried to move the steering wheel and could not so i shut the car off and pushed it back. after some trouble shooting i narrowed it down to the box so i put my orignial back in and all is well just a little sloppy. the other night i pulled the input valve out and found a broken oring along side and inside the top of the shaft. i found an exploded diagram and discovered that this oring was supposed to be in between the bottom of the input valve and the spiral cut shaft. put a new oring in there put the box back in the car, bled the air our started the car all was working good for about 2mins then it started to do the same thing just not as harsh or fast. any input or suggestions would be great. oh yea and when it did it the first time i called agr and was told no warranty take somewhere to get rebuilt or send to us and we will do it for a fee

thanks
Nick

Did you guys adjust the new box? sounds like it might be set up too tight. My SWAG is it is causing an internal binding on the gear.

i dont think it is too tight. i have it set to where i could easily turn it by hand. my thoughts were leave it loose until i get all the air out. but i will loosen more and try it again

Lines on the box are swapped. I did the same thing.

Interesting, my AGR box for my Chevy truck to the left always felt a little easier-tech said I didn't bleed it-we did. Then after 1 year right off center to left it would get WAY easier to turn effort wise, almost make you over correct in a turn.

Bought a replacement AGR box that had so much free play we had to turn the adjustor almost 3 turns to get any resistance.

the lines are not crossed because the tube nuts are different sizes. i put my old box on in the mean time. it still works fine. im just trying to find out what is causing this

If problem goes away when new box is swapped out,and that is the only component changed, its gotta be the box. If AGR won't fix send it to Lee.They have a great rep. They do all the NASCAR boxes don't they?
