Congratulations to the BFGoodrich Tires/Wide Open Excursions “Baja Challenge” (BC05) team who finished second in class at the 43rd Annual SCORE Baja 1000. The entire team gave it everything they had throughout the 1061.69-mile course. Casey Currie and Chad Gilsinger started the day off right having gained a heavy lead on the six buggy BC field. Lars Wolfe and Bud Brutsman took control of the vehicle at RM382 where they held the class lead until an unforgiving silt bed kept them down near RM625. Wolfe and Brutsman finally shook loose from the silt and fought hard to gain ground on the BC02 and BC06 teams. Kyle Tucker and Jason Scherer were given the honors of bringing the buggy home where they eventually passed the BC06 team just before the finish line at RM1050.

I've always loved offroad racing, and the Baja 1000 is one of the most grueling, out of control races in the country. It is amazing to just finish, much less to place. Congratulations Kyle, Baja, and the Mint in Vegas, are two that I have been wanting to go to for a long time. Had to be a hard day at the office though.LOL Ron

Excellent for BFG and Kyle. Looking at some of the pictures on the DSE site it looks like it would be easy to get beat up.

Awe crap, I missed the Baja 1000! My XR650R is going to be mad at me!
Congrats on the Baja Kyle!
Thanks guys...it was a blast! I appreciate everyone's support from Pro-Touring along the way. We had a great BFG Team and survived the Baja, it is a real feat to finish the race alone. Our team was mixed between seasoned CA off-road guys and two from the pavement side of things. I got in at race mile 777 of the 1061 miles, the final segment, and we were able to go from 4th to 2nd place in class and pass alot of other quicker trucks/buggies/motorcycles along the way in the final stage.
It is hard to put into words the race but it's alot like playing football and driving a sprint car at the same time. The terrain is tough, the locals are drunk and throwing anything from beer bottles, rocks and logs at you all the while trying to sabotage the race course. We finished the race on the same set of BFG KM2 tires that we started with so we never had to get out and work on it, other than getting it out of a silt bed that it was buried in. We are working on trying to get back with the same team next year and improve on our 2nd place finish. We will post more videos/photos as they become available from BFG.
Thansk again! Kyle
The combination of playing football while driving a sprint car is a great analogy! Great work Kyle...Congrats!
