So, I get this PM from a member on this board about a week ago. He had the nerve to invite me to a free track day at Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside CA. You know the one thats been around since... I think the 60's and the one that has the Tuesday evening time attacks for pro-touring folk like me. Well, when I first started to read this email, I was thinking to myself... "what you want me to drive my car (which I love to drive) out to a race track... and then you want me to race it around the track all day for free?" Oh-ommm... well... I don't know about that (wink-wink). Then this guy (Rob from NoLimits) tells me that there's gonna be some press at the track for a magazine shoot, a new web-site... and a video... The NERVE of you Rob. lol.
Damn right I was in... he had me at "free track day"... I would have driven to BF Egypt for a free track day, but don't tell him this just in case he invites me again.
Man I was excited about this... except I just remembered that I still had a leaking rear-end axel seal from the Duel in The Desert event. At this moment I was just thinking "no problem I'll just fix it this weekend". Turns out that I couldn't just fix it by pulling the axel out and replacing the seal because it's the type that needs a bearing collar removed with a press to get to the seal (forgot I had a 9" Ford rear end in my Camaro). So, now it's Monday A.M. and I'm on my way to see my friends at Currie for a little help and guess what?... the "free" event is on Tuesday. Crap I might not make it.
I was determined not to miss this free stuff. Currie did their part as expected, and I was able to get my act together with a little time to spare for a little car loving... wipe... rub, then wipe again. She likes that you know.
Woke up Tuesday early because I found out the night before that Rob was not kidding about all day... 8 to 5, just a few of us... on the track... having fun... did I mention for free yet? I opened the garage and looked out to a sea of morning coastal fog, you know the kind that's basically light rain because everything is wet. My car is a full time roadster... I was not going to let this get to me, so I was on my way on the freeway in no time except for the ridiculous traffic.
I get to Adams Motorsports Park, what a great looking and fun looking medium sized and medium speed track. I see vender reps from Baer Brakes, Nitro Wheels, Line-X... I see several magazine photographers, and video cameras located at several of the turns. I even noticed that Rob was hiding one other thing from me... catered free lunch. The nerve of him.
As the day starts to unfold, we got to run the track in a shorter and more technical format first. In this format it gave us a chance to try out our tight driving skills while at the same time giving us a taste of 3rd gear in the back straight with a speed limiter just before the banked right hand turn. As the day progressed I was able to see a brief period of time in 3rd gear right before I had to slam the brakes and pull the shifter back to second for my turn set up. Wow, I must say, never driven on a banked turn... let alone drift around one as I would dive from the middle of the turn and the middle of the track back down to the second apex point at the end of the banked turn (doulbe apex style). Sh*%#! that was addicting.
Eventually, the typical time attack track format was un-corked for us to go ballz out on. This day just kept getting better. Not only was I having a blast, I was in great company... the boys from Canada Speedtech Performance were there with the black "RessureXion" Nova. That was a kick in the pants chasing him down on the track. Also a few 2010 Camaros and modern Mustangs, the Charger from Bully Dog Performance was in attendance along with Rob's bitchen NoLimit Big Ten Chassis truck. Toward the end of the day, I even got a chance to take a camera man out for a filming ride. It started out as the standard 5 lap session, but when the other car pulled in they let me keep going... "are you kidding me" on the the track alone with a camera man sitting shot gun... Damn it's Top Gun time. I started pushing harder and what felt faster. My Camaro was performing and making me look good, car was hooking up when I wanted it to, and it was drifting when needed... it would even come back when I wanted. It was top notch on my fun meter.
When I finally pulled back into the pits, I noticed my poor girl had enough thrashing for the day. She started leaking power steering fluid right at one of the rack & pinion hard lines. I guess I'll need to upgrade that fitting. None-the-less it was an awsome day.
So, if offering a free track day with media coverage is not enough from a Ford guy, Rob had the nerve to step it up even better. I just met Rob and his wife Tina a few months back at the Labor Day autocross in Orange County CA. Basically we have only seen each other face to face twice and spoke on the phone a few times. So our relationship and friendship is fresh. You know the kind were your still testing the waters with your new friend.
Well here is the kicker, Rob and his wife are such pure and giving people, with great trust and character... that they offered for me to borrow their truck and trailer to carry my hurt baby home. Now this may not seem like much on the outside and it didn't come to my attention until my wife saw me return home with a pretty nice Ford diesel rig and a really cool tilting aluminum car trailer. Her words "so this Rob and Tina just let you take... about $60K worth of equipment home when you have only met him 2 times???"
Bottom line to this story, if there is any indication from the character of a person... to how they might run a business... or to who they are on the inside, then I'm going with Rob. You know the Ford guy with the truck from NoLimits thats got a lot of nerve for making my day.
I know this thread is worthless without pics and/or video, Back to you Rob....What can you leak out to post to tease us?

Ok... new information brought to my attention that proves my point even better. I just read Rob's post and went to check the back seat...That dirty muffin dog slipped my money back to me that I tried to pay him for the use of his truck. Now Im pissed... you know pay back is a bitch. Ha Ha LOL. Thanks bro... you are a class act.
