View Full Version : Electrical System Suggestions
this is my first post and just FYI I am as green as they come as far as car knowledge (I do have help so getting the job done won't be a problem). That being said I am restoring a 1967 RS SS Camaro and it is a blank canvas. The car is completely stripped down and the body work and paint is complete so it is time to start assembly.
What I'm looking for are suggestions on what electrical system components to use. I would like some modern technology. I know I want stuff like power windows, power locks, but those are the easy things and don't really make the car stand out. I don't want to get stupid crazy and spend a boat load of cash but I would like some cool enhancements.
Any suggestions, places to buy, good/bad experiences would be appreciated.

It gets no "cooler" than these two... I'm planning a combination of the two. Already have my ISIS 3 cell kit and will be adding the MiMod touch screen for switching, GPS Nav, Stereo, etc.

american autowire is a good setup. it is basically a direct replacement but has some upgraded features.

American autowire update kits will andle all your normal upgrades easily. We sell a lot every year and install them in the shop. If you want you Camaro to act like a new Lexus, ISIS is a more logical suggestion. However technology is $$$$ so we need to figure out what enhancements you are considering to help you out better

ISIS will run $1000 for just a single MASTER and 2 POWERCELL's.
In most applications I've seen, people need 1 more POWERCELL, so that's roughly $1350.
Most of the cool features require more add on's too. No doubt VERY cool for those with deep pockets though.
American Autowire will cost you $400 - $500 ish.
I chose the American Autowire route because I can add in whatever cool features I want later.
I've had Painless before, and it's not painless......it sucks compared to American Autowire.
I couldn't brag about their quality enough.....it's top notch, and the schematics are total wiring idiot friendly.
I got my AAW Highway 22 kit through Musclerodz for a great price.

I agree, there are two choices:
For high-end feature-rich cars (alarms, power accessories, keyless entry, push-button start, integrated touch screens) : ISIS. Awesome stuff.
For normal OEM replacement setups: American Auto Wire.

I went with an AAW classic update kit, just about to begin wiring the car up (started mocking up things and removing old harness and getting dash apart) The Isis system looks very interesting if you have the budget for it.

I have no experience with AAW but I'm sure you could. There is so much more to ISIS though than just hooking things like this up. There are added security and safety features that you don't get from a traditional harness, plus the programmability to be able to do virtually anything a high-end car fresh of the factory line can do. Plus less wiring to actually run. So many benefits to ISIS.

Yes you can.
I have an LS1 in my car I wired with this kit and I still have a few spare circuits.
The power locks and accessories are in my future as well.

I am using a Stardrive keyless system in the car I'm building. It is not complete so I really can't give you my opinion yet. Sven the company owner/designer is very helpful. Check out this link:

I ran across this from IDIDIT the other day too. Might be a little simpler way to do a keyless ignition. Less capabilities but also less money. Bang around their site and check it out. They had a start button built into the steering collumn where the key would normally go. I dont like the look but my car is more modern themed.
