What kind of heads came on a 1986 model 454 Chevy truck engine?

Can anybody tell me what kind of heads came on an '86 Chevy 454 truck? I'm upgrading with cam, electric fans, aluminum intake and heads to put in my Chevelle. Did this 454 came with vortec heads or low compression heads? What are the specs on these heads? Thanks!

Big blocks never got "vortec" heads.

The 86 heads are the peanut port heads (small intake), good for low end torque. The L29 heads on the Gen VI engines are pretty good and supposedly work on the Mark IV engines. I would look for the older 781 oval ports or similar heads 74-earlier I believe, a little rusty on BBC head info.

72 and older are the heads to look for, especially L88 heads, though I'm sure they cost an arm and a leg anymore. Smog heads started up in late 73.
