Wondering if people normally weld their rear downbars as they pass through the parcel tray and into the trunk area or leave them clear for any movement? Pros? Cons?

Thanks,
G.

Check out Mikes Custom Cars he is a sponsor here he has some good pics on his site...From all the cages I have seen installed I don't recall seeing any welded to the package tray.

Its best to run a gap at that point. If not you'll get some crazy loud pop and squeeks when driving. Run a 1/4" gap and seal with foam rubber.

I just said that most people don't weld the bars and that the package tray should hide where you cut through the metal... something like that.

go figure? The power of the moderators!! wohooo!!

Thanks for the info guys. I've seen some welded and some not. Now that you mention the noises, that parcel tray (stock) likely provides any structural rigidity anyways. Gaps it is. Thanks again.
