just as the title says. will an earlier Z06 cam and springs drop right in an 08 tahoe 5.3? it does have the 243 heads, but just double checking before purchase.

Pretty sure you'll at least need 8 lifters to account for the AFM cylinders. Sure like to hear what you find out, I have an 09 5.3 that is going in some day.

i am pretty sure it doesn't after looking. think the difference is a 3 bolt timing chain gear for the 24x stuff, and single bolt for 58x. for an engine alot say is interchangeable, (and was till a few years ago) there sure is alot of ******* stuff used in the truck engines. a little bit of everything.

Any C5 Z06 cam will go right in, the C6 Z06 on the other hand will need some changes to work. The 06 Z06 cam is a 3 bolt and 07+ is the single bolt, but to get them to work in the 5.3 you will need to get a LS2/3 front cover with the cam position sensor in the cover and the cam gear to go with it.

One thing I'll mention is that an LS6 cam change is going to be extremely mild for all the effort you have to go through. I looked into it and found that it wasn't going to be worth the time and effort. Unless the cam was free and you have a ton of time to kill I'd save up for a better grind.

are you going to reuse the AFM/DoD lifters?

After realizing what a cam swap involved and cost, I found some guys on LS1tech had just blocked off the oil towers with set screws and ran them that way. While not necessarily the best, I'm going to do that and see what happens. Already installed an F-body pan and inserted the set screws in the towers. I'm not looking for a bazillion horsepower and drove a new Tahoe to see if I would like the motors performance albeit in a car 1K lbs less.

Before you do the swap, you may at least look into some of the aftermarket grinds tailored to the truck world. The Z06 cam will shift your Torque peak upward into the RPM band a significant amount. Low end torque is really what's needed for these road pigs.

Vinci Performance makes a few really nice cams. For the effort you'll get a vast improvement in HP over the Z06 cam for a small additional cost.

i am running the retro lsx pan, so what i believe to be the pressure regulator in the stock pan is history. what ever it was, is gone now anyways, :) guess i forgot to mention i am twin turboing this motor also with twin gt35-r's. will be running on fairily low boost till i build the engine, but i can get all my turbo plumbing, intake and other accessories figured out with just the stock engine.
after doing more research into the dod, i have decided to completely remove all of it. already have new lifters and trays, and a valley cover from an 09 vette. the engine is not in the car right now, and will be pulling it again anyways, once all of my mock up is done for final finishing and painting. in other words, i can swap all the parts and the cam easily at that point. not in love with the z06 cam, just wanted something cheap to give me a little bit better sounding idle over the stock tahoe. the turbos will take care of the rest!! hahaha
if i am tearing it down anyways, gonna put something different in there.

here is what i am getting confused about though. what the heck kind of cam am i looking for? it is a 58x engine. has the ls2 style front cam cover with the sensor in it, but is single bolt on the cam.
