Curious if anyone is running this or tried it. I know it's tall (for a 1st Gen) and a 245/40R18 is the usual size, so no need to remind me. Pics would be nice if you've done it.

Thanks.

I'm running a 245/40/19(same width and diameter as the 245/45/18) on my 69 and will tell you that it is a very tight fit with my car being lowered 3+". at full lock, it barely scrubs the outer fender lip. you have to be careful not to take steep transitions with the wheels turned deep. I would advise against this tire size for most people. however, if you are a glutton for punishment like me and not afraid to massage the inner wheelwells and fender lip, it looks badass on the car. and the extra ground clearance is welcomed. just remember, you have to run a taller rear tire to balance out the stance.

I was planning 275 or 285/40R18 for the rear. Thanks for the feedback.

I've got a pair of Nitto 555s 245/45/18 that are like new. Make you a great deal if you're interested.

Thanks, I haven't decided on wheels yet. I may split the difference and go 235/45R18 since the car oversteers already. I'm just wondering if the 245/45R18 would fit and look right.

I think the proportions would look "weird" with that rear size tire. Read: too much sidewall compared to the rear

But the 275/40R18 should have the same sidewall as the 245/45R18, correct? Are you saying even with equal sidewalls, there's something with the body lines that plays tricks on the eyes making them look taller in front?

there are a couple of pics of my car in this thread. https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?73304-my-19-20-Rushforths-finally-see-the-light-of-day

granted, my fronts are 19's, not 18's. but they will give you an idea of the proportion. my rears are 295/35/20's that are 28.15" tall. and the car is minitubbed to fit them. my car is also wearing the diabolical fatman 2" drop spindles.

The 245/45 is too tall in an 18. My wheels came with 45's by mistake, and there is no way they would have worked on the front of a 68 camaro with an 8" wheel and 4 3/4 backspace. I actually think the 40 is a little too tall to go with the 335 18's in the rear. 67-68's need 1/2 to 3/4" taller rear tires to look balanced in my opinion. When I need new rears, I am thinking about rehooping my wheels as 19's to get a better height selection
