41982hey guys, just thought I would show you the build I'm starting. I have a 64 corvette with a 327 and 4 speed. I drove the car last summer and it worked ok. Then I drove my friend's 07 LS2 corvette and wow, what a car! That's when I decided to put that driveline in the 64! I got a lot of ideas from your site and it has been a huge help in the build! The Plan is to use most of the stock suspension, add rack and pinioin, use the mono leaf on the rear. The motor will be a 6.0 litre with the Edelbrock cam and MSD box to convert it to carberator. Wheels will be ZO6 style. Tranny will be a T56 magnum41981

Blasted the frame and painted it with epoxy and then chassis paint. Nice hard finish. Now to fit the 6.0! I measured the 327 and will install the engine in the same place keeping it low in the engine compartment so I don't have to cut the hood.

Ive got the new wheels (275/35/18) didnt want to go too wide as clearance is minimal on these cars. I built my own engine mounts and found I had to remove and tap the heater hose outlets to clear the upper a-arm. I decided to go with a march pulley system on the front and may have to notch the front frame.

Working on the body, had to build up the quarters and fenders, then we flipped the car over to get under the fenders and quarters

Finally decided on brakes for the 64 vette. Ordered a set from CPP and installed on the weekend. I had to do a lot of shimming anbd modifing but they fit great and look nice. Should help getting this car stopped!

The back brakes were the hardest to fit because of the trailing arm. I had to get the calipers in just the right spot so they wouldn't hit when the suspension traveled.

I like it better with the fender flares, but should be nice, overall, when it's done, anyway!

Thanks for sharing; keep us posted!

Project is coming right along. Great to see your doing a different paint treatment with the strip. Looks like it should really stand out from the crowd.

Keep it up and you'll finish before you know it....

OK now to assemble, this is the tedious part. The bumpers were extremely hard to fit and now I realize I should have fit them before I painted the car. But with careful measuring, getting my ten year old and 12 year old sons to hold the bumpers, I drilled new holes and bolted them up. We filled in the holes with fiberglass because they were cracked so bad! The headlights are tricky- I had them in and out ten times!! Tip: label each part as to what side they go on!! They will fit either way but won't work correctly on wrong side!!

so I've been driving the car for a bit and had a few little issues. The oil pan was abit too low and hit on the rack so I ordered a camaro one and it has much better clearance!! Another problem was an A/C line leaked and compressor kept going and siezed up! I put a new one on and put a low pressure switch in line with the compressor power so that when pressure drops the compressor shuts off. Besides that , the car works great!! It really growls through the gears!! Handling is great too!! Car sure attracts a lot of attention! Most don't understand the significance of the LS though.

GREAT looking car!! :1st:

I sure miss my '65 convertible... I had it for 22 years and I truly miss it... NEVER listen to a "future" ex-wife!

That's got to be a lot of fun driving around. My old muncie trans with a factory shifter was pretty sloppy... I bet that T56 is a dream goin' through the gears!

now that the vette is done, im starting on a 73 charger for my winter project, plan is shortening front by 6 inches, 6.1 hemi, 6 speed, low and maybe flat black with flat black twenties!!

I'm teaching my son to build this one, he's 13 and already can weld- here he is welding the quarters on!!
52418
Gotta get him off that xbox once in a while!! He cleans and washes trucks at my shop to save money for it. I pay him half his wages and put the rest towards the car. (I'll likely buy the motor though as it will cost a lot!)

Very cool that you're getting your son involved. The vette turned out great. The color combo looks even better in the daylight.

Car looks great man. Can I ask do those wheels fit under factory wheelwell and wheeltubs? What size are they? Width and backspacing? What it balls down to is I have a 64 that is like to put newer corvette wheels on and I'm not finding much infor on backspacing on newer factory wheels
