If you know about what you want your car to end up like then the best would find shops that do things in that style, if that makes sense. What may be more important is what shops not to go to, do some research on each shop.

Depends on your budget - lots of shops that will take time to make you car into your vision. Ask for references and look at pictures of CUSTOM finished cars (preferably corvettes), not just body-worked, painted, LS-converted, and bolt on parts thrown on. IMO, start with a quality rendering and interview some shops with that can translate that 3-D drawing into what you want into 2-D. Ironworks is a good start, but many out there - Roadster Shop, Performance Restoration, Alloway's, MuscleRodz, Marquez can definitely build those! Communicating and asking questions is the key to uncovering the right shop. Hedges has deep experience in vettes - probably a good choice

From an aethetics point of view I think they build the best looking 63-67 Corvettes. However, you may want to read this thread over at the Corvette Forum regarding a C3 chassis they built:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-and-c2-corvettes/2513606-hedges-speed-shop.html.
I would try and contact current and previous customers to get a more accurate evaluation of the car building experience and the performance of the car once complete.

You might try and do some research on this as well:

Might want to check ebay feedback as well:

Personally, buy the chassis from Hedges, have the car built by Prodigy or another reputable shop.

Agree, there are lots of shops that will do a top notch job.....I'd pick a shop relatively close to your residence. Pics are great but seeing the project in person is priceless

Follow this build of a '63 named "Split Personality"--
http://www.corvettefever.com/sch/02/split-personality/articles/index.html
The car was a finalist for the Ridler award a few years back, which to my understanding is very unusual for a sportscar. A lot of the work was done by--
http://www.corvettecenter-ct.com/index.htm
I saw the car and it was spectacular and CT is a shorter flight than CA.
They have done some work for me over the years and they are a top Corvette shop.
That said and with no 1st hand knowledge, I have followed a lot of Prodigy's work on the forum and various mags and they are on my list for my next build.

There is also these shops that specialize in vette chassis and I doubt that they would let one go out that looked like the one pictured in the other Hedge's threads--
