Am I going to be sorry if I paint my car in pieces?
I'm thinking Electron blue...
I don't want the car off the road all summer so I want to paint the front half first. I've done some repairs and the front is bare glass right now.
I don't want to drive it naked like this so I want to spray the front, the do the jambs / doors then the rear half.
Yes I know it will look funny, but i'd like to cover the front as soon as possible so I don't miss the 3 week summer up here in Minnesota.

modern paints you should be able to do it, but you have to replicate the conditions of the day you sprayed nose out(air pressure, temp, mix), which if not in a booth, you never will, put that thing in urethane high build primer and drive, or do all jambs, under hood etc, and drive then do all outside at once, you will not be happy if you do not.
i do bodywork everyday and i would not paint at seperate times if i did not have to

I have done my car that way, so far I have the complete front clip done, my buddy painted the car, I asked about the way the color will lay, and match, his answer, so what, we'll sand it down and paint the whole thing, so yes it's hard, bu tit might depend alot on the color,

Solid colors you could probably get away with. Metallics you will more than likely not. I would paint the back sides and jambs and leave the outside primer until you can do it together. Even if you paint it a little at a time, you want to buy all the color at once to make sure the color will be exactly the same.

paint front, then paint the rest?? thats fine if you do not mind doing things twice and spending another couple hundred on material, you can't just mist it on if you repaint the front, you need to apply it in the same fashion as you do the rest of the car, i would much rather paint jambs etc then go full paint when ready.
only thing i panel paint is black

OK, Dang,
So how do I clean off the dead bugs and road grime before I paint the whole thing?
I really need to drive it, or are you telling me to get off my ass and get to it?? :-D
I really don't want to paint the front twice. Once will be enough I think.

that why spray 2-3 coats of urethane primer, drive, then wash with soap and water, and guide coat and block sand, you may find imperfections and need to spot prime areas but any road mess will be no problem, i would block sand with 320, then apply one more coat of primer maybe 2 and sand with 500-600, then you can go right into basecoat, eliminating sealer as it will only add to orange peel and give another coat for dust to get into, goodluck

I guess I'll have to see how mine comes out, it may have been a waste of time, but I guess I'm lucky, I only pay for my paint, eveything else the shop covers, I guess we should have painted the whole car but I didn't do the rear panels yet, but I don't do this for a living either, should be painting hopefully, in August still have to fix the suspension, front and rear, Steve
