Charger 500 -70 Pro Touring project

Hi all, i´ve have little Charger project going on.


I´ve had difficulties deciding what engine + tranny combo im going with.

I WANT:)
-Modern and reliable engine, 450-500hp will be enough and smooth operating 5 or 6 speed manual gearbox, and will be using fuel injection (aftermarket one).

Any recommendations, i am thinking 5.7 or 6.1 modern hemi with Tremec TKO-600 tranny, or T-56 magnum. Or does anyone have better suggestions about gearbox, (or engine, but it definately has to be from mopar product).

Sounds like you need to look into a 6.1 SRT setup or contact Mopar performance and get one of the 392's coming out.

Indy Clynder head builds a bad ass new generation hemi with the old school look, if not them, look at arrington engines. Both these guy can give you 700+ rwhp without a problem. Great project!!

Those pics don´t ive any justice to paintjob, few better in paintshops gallery -> http://personal.inet.fi/yritys/heinimaa/simpleviewer/index.html but not too good either. But turned out really good, it is like black glass. Alltough they put up 400 hours of labour to it.

And for technics, i don´t want 700whp engine for this. 400-450hp is fairly enough, it is more important that it´s reliable and maintenance free. Don´t have any overheating isuues when standing on traffic jam etc.

This is supposed to be fairly quick, good to handle, silent, reliable with A/C and nice and easy to drive. Not track or dragstrip car, i have those type of cars allready.

In that case I would go with a stock 6.1 with a t-56 magnum.

Agreed, a well preped 6.1 will work well. Just put one in a 70 Challenger, its awesome. Opted for the tremec 5 speed so we did not have to murder the tunnel. A richmond is a lot easier than the tko 6spd on the mopar front. Doin that on the 71 Road Runner.

What manual gearboxes are used for example in Challenger srt or Dodge Ram?

The challenger is the t-56 magnum, And which dodge ram? the regular one uses a huge truck transmission, and the srt-10 uses a viper transmission I believe.

Benjamin the viper still uses a t56, I think.
