Hi Guys
Looking for suggestions and opinions on the following:
I have a newly built 455 now 462, with all the good stuff - hydraulic roller, E heads etc. Feeds through a Mad Dog 13/4" through a 3" exhaust to FlowMasters. Supposed to be 600+hp and 600 ft/lb.
Took the car for an initial shakedown run in the Hood. Did maybe a mile in total when I see lots of smoke trailing the car. Get home and its oil burning off the headers, At the point where the spill is it seems that it could only have come through the dip stick tube. Enough smoke to have caused me to panic!! I also notice a small amount of oil sweating onto the valley pan under the intake. That is coming up through the two studs that hold the valley pan in place.
I have not driven car since - only start, rev up and leave idling for 15 - 20 minute periods. Oil pressure is good - not unusually high or low. I have re-tightened the screws in the valley pan but they still leak when I start and leave car idling. Seems as if some silicone was put there by the builder (should that be?). Can't see any further oil leaks from the dip stick tube or anywhere else while it is idling. However, did notice that the cheapo breather caps are very difficult to blow through when I try to do so using my mouth. Could there be a crank case breathing problem that gets worse when under load/driving? Apart from the obvious change of breather caps, how can I tell if there is a crankcase pressure issue?
I strongly suspect that when run again the dip stick tube oil leak will come back. Any ideas or thoughts on what is causing this and the valley pan stud leak?
thanks,
Rich
