Will some of the experts weigh in on what they think these inter-coolers will really flow?

Ron, I don't think that those lil inter-coolers will be enough to flow your 900CFM...

Thx David for starting a new thread...(cont'd from) https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?71677-Twin-Turbo-Ls3

Looks like frozenboost is out of Colorado, I will call them tomorrow and ask.

Good info here: http://www.bellintercoolers.com/pages/techFAQ.html#FAQ_5

Of particular interest is the last half of FAQ #5... They sell both, so I figure that info is about as un-biased as you can get... My comments were based on a direct comparison of inlet charge temperatures vs heat radiating areas. Obviouly, each type has it's place.

Cool..good read..Thx

I agree that you will not get better than an air/air intercooler in terms of efficiency (using air), but with my new LQ9 (that I just got today..yeehaw!) it will require me to relocate the air/air intercooler to the front of the radiator core support where it is very crowded already. So now, I will need to set-up a new custom intercooler. This is where I was poking around with the water/air idea.

I think water/air can be used effectively if set-up properly.(not to mention an ice tank for Drag). You can also get creative with where/how you set-up the radiators.

GM and Bugatti both use it, can't be that bad..right?

I agree that GM does use them...

I was thinking about using the LS3 heads with some sort of hand fabricated intake. By using this setup, you could try and use the GM inter-cooler with your turbo setup. I have some wild ideas about how to do this successively.

Emailed about these two smaller units supporting 800hp 2.5" intercooler (http://www.frozenboost.com/product_info.php?cPath=218&products_id=220&osCsid=113a64e6122834c56fba70d1dc816fc2)
The response was "it would be close, may want to look at going to the 3" intercooler"

I was going to use my existing induction set-up with the Accel DFI 1200cfm tb and the Banks twin inlet box with built-in pop-off valve. This will alow me to use the carb style EFI air gap manifold.

I was also thinking, how cool would it be (no pun intended) to use an insulated water box that I put a small evaporator coil in to chill down from the A/C? Who needs ice..LOL

Very cool idea, Ron.

What manifolds do you plan on using?

I was thinking of using the Victor Jr EFI intake with the AFR LSX 215 heads. (or AFR LSX 225cc???)

I should have asked what exhaust manifolds/turbo headers?

Duh...:slap: I didn't pick up on the manifolds. Selective vision

I was checking out these manifolds from APS (http://www.airpowersystems.com/fbody/manifolds.htm). I haven't called yet to see what the cost is..I'm expecting bend over cost...then shipping to the states..

Otherwise I was thinking of fab'ing something up.

APS will not sell the manifolds by themselves. I already tried to go down that road.

Well that blows.. I guess I will be fab'ing my own. There loss...

Criteria I will try and maintain:
1) Keep tucked up against block.
2) Keep above oil pan to maintain gravity drain to pan.
3) Use heavy sch pipe for reduced underhood heat, better turbo ops and strength.

This is what I'm thinking http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Making-Turbo-Manifolds-Part-1/A_2604/article.html

McMaster carr makes some really good elbows for turbo projects. I will try and find a old thread that went through the process of using them. Also, there was a guy who used them on high HP builds...let me look.

Ron,
You might try these guys.
http://www.murrayequipment.com/dyncat.asp?Categ=Pipe%20Fittings

Also, B&B Surplus in Bakersfield has CS and SS weld fittings...along with a lot of other cool "project metal".
http://www.elistingengine.com/listings_products.asp?id=2618&c=43&f=37
Forget their website, though. They have a ton of stuff you won't find on there...

One of the problems with using welded pipe fittings is the odd sizing and lack of choices. I've done a few of these types of manifold, and the ID tends to be either too big or too small. I've had the best luck with 1 1/4 SCH10, but it's hit or miss on what you'll get each time...

Back to the water/air intercooler...I had a thought (sometime they are flops, but I'll throw it out anyway)

To make this a simple system could one tap off of the water pump pressure side (cooler water from radiator 150-160ish?) and pipe over to the heat exchanger (http://www.frozenboost.com/product_info.php?cPath=217&products_id=1002&osCsid=af07f83f6032ddd8f32a2f114e0df94c) which should drop to ambient (should?) then pipe to the air/water intercooler then back to the side of the radiator? I would love not to use an electric pump. Upside, you would have additional radiator capacity during off boost cruising not to mention no additional pump and wiring.
