So a couple of weeks ago Rodger from Ironworks and I were fortunate enough to spend the weekend at the Reno-Fernley Raceway which is a really challenging 4 plus mile long road course in the middle of the desert.. Something like 23 corners and 30 plus apexes and 150ish feet of elevation change. I'll work on getting some pictures up soon but for now here are some short videos that will give you some idea what it was like...

This was a performance driving school put on by the NorCal UFO club and we were fortunate to

have Fast Mary Pozzi as our instructor for the weekend.

ahhh we were trying to see how we could make that one but we had to pass. UFO soulds like a great group to thrash with. Esp with Mary and Curtis on the black board.

Looks good James. We going to see you in Pleasanton this November?

Geez. You need a lot seat time to remember that track!

Looks great James. See you next week.

We had the opportunity to do some "recon" laps on Friday - Mary was driving the OLC and I was riding shotgun. There was a time that afternoon where we looked at one another and wondered if we would be able to run the car hard and if the weekend was going to come to an early end. Then again, there was also a time on Friday when one of the instructors suggested that "the Camaros" should let the Miata's pass on the front straight because they would just just stuck behind "us" in the corners. lol.

In reality it took the first session to get the course figured out (in terms of which blind corner when which way) and by Sunday (two tanks of gas and 200 miles later) it was an absolute blast - even in the rain.

If you look at the first video at around 1:25 you'll see some of the wild horses that graze on the track property; nothing like heading down a straight at 100 mph towards a 160° left turn and seeing a young horse 10 feet off the side of the track...

Over the course of the day we were able to take about 10 seconds off our (my) lap times. Nothing like you instructor using encouraging statements like "Don't you touch that brake... don't you dare touch it..." and "go go go go go... get that sucker..." lol

"Don't your dare..." Funny!

If you guys end up going again give me a heads-up.

So, how did you stack up against the Miatas? Were they super quick or what??

Man that is a killer track! 13 hours from Phoenix though.. thats rough.

Giving them a half mile head start it took me three Laps to pass the field... :)
The miatas took two... I needed the third one to get by the bimmer...

Dang Dude.

Do you work, or just play all the time?

You really know how to make a guy (and probably a slew of guys and gals) jealous!

That's killer stuff, man. What a great time!

Very cool, Jimmy. I didn't even know that this track existed until I spoke with Mary a few weeks back when they were prep'ing the car. That is one heck of a track, looks like a real handful to remember! The vid with the front suspension in view is especially cool, shows just how much travel the car is going through depsite a reasonably taught spring setup. Nice!
