tried to go for my CT pistol permit and found there are a few problems. for the back story: about 12+ years ago, crap happened at a store i was working at. some employees were stealing (false return slips) and it happened that i was restoring a knife for one of them. he was paying me with dremel tools, that apparently he was also stealing. they got busted, and somehow i was implicated in this. i took the plea since i never even met my lawyer before hand, never even knew his name. later the court called me and said that they couldn't use the plea as it was for people under 18 and i was 19 or 20. i told them that they'd have to throw it out then as (my understanding) was that they'd have to try me again, and that'd be double jeopardy. that was the last i heard about it.
now i found out there were charges i don't remember, including a couple of felonies. and the case still says "pending". obviously i can't get a pistol permit, and this could screw things up for me in other ways, i'm sure.
does anyone have any idea what i do now? the detective who went over my applications said i had to go to the court and have the case closed/expunged/adjudicated(spelling?), what do i have to do for that?
since i never fulfilled the "sentence" that couldn't be applied to me, am i now guilty of something worse? (the sentence was something like a small fine, community service and maybe something else, but i think after that the charges "disappeared".)
thanks for the help!

Ummmm I think you'd better find a lawyer licensed to practice in the state where the charges were filed. This could have triggered the case again and in they find you guilty of a Felony in Absentia you could be looking at a lot of problems for many years.
If they truly never charged you, or let it drop, then the Statue of Limitations should have run out by now, but I would not let this slide. If it does become a felony rap , you will have problems the rest of your life, from getting a job, to credit, lack of voting rights etc. etc.

Dyno Don's right on with his advice... I am a Police Officer, and that is the same advice I would give... Bite the bullet and hire a lawyer $$$.... The money spent now will be well worth it in the long run... I've seen things like this screw with people's lives for VERY long periods of time.... Sorry I can't help anymore than that...
