View Full Version : Cal City drag strip? Maybe O/T...just a thought to pass around.

I just saw a thread on another forum about the Brotherhood of Street Racers. This idea might belong on another forum, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever approached California City about building a drag strip in the "ghost city" east of town.

There are miles of roads out there that are already graded and compacted. I Google mapped an area where we used to camp and ride and found a 4 lane "expressway" that I remembered that is dead flat and straight for almost a mile.

Yes, it would need to be paved, and yes lack of electricity would be an issue, but that city is not getting any bigger (for good reason), so a land deal might be appealing as it would definitely bring business to the town.

Pass it on, I guess....

Any thoughts?

Hell, for that matter, some of those roads would make a damn fine road course as well... Anybody in good with a paving contractor??

Price prohibited, I live in Cal City and the fees and studies out in that area concerning the desert tortise is costly for a business startup. Protect the tortise is the goal of private groups, BLM and Fish and Game. Build a house ok, try to do a business and your paying fees that amount to extortion. We loss a desert camping area to the tortise groups and BLM. You should see the problems a business group are going though for trying to build a track next to the poppy preserve in the Lancaster area. You can tear the desert up off roading in our area, but try to build a business with pavement and buildings, you are in for a fight. You ride out here and should know what BLM is trying to do with their riding permits. By the way, Willow springs has been playing with drag nights, but do not have a established strip yet.
