Can I sanblast chrome metal emblems for powder coating rather than pay for chemical dipping by chroming companies or will it do damage?
Thanks

I think the sand may be a bit harsh, and leave a 'peppered' texture. You might want to consider glass or soda blast instead...

Especially if it's pot metal, sand will destroy the emblems. At a minimum, you will lose all definition.

Use a finer grade of media (like 100-150 grit) and blast at 30-40 psi, don't leave the blaster in one place for too long and you should be okay. It may seem to take longer than you want, but it won't wash out the detail and will leave a good surface for the powder to stick to. If it's real chrome plating, and nice and THICK you can blast at 60 psi or so. Don't be surprised if it flakes off, the metal underneath the chrome is soft and alot of times there's poor adhesion of the plating to begin with.

Thanks all, Dan, I hit everything with low pressure today then went in and powder coated and it turned out nice. Thanks again.
