Sweet.

Is there any place where we can race our 'pro-touring' cars like bathurst or eastern creek or anything, or is this all specific sanctioned vehicles and there is no such thing in australia as there is in america where you can use your own vehicle in the races?

Id love to use my 68 charger... and what specific rules/mods etc would be alowed before you are disqualified if there even is such a thing down here?

Just curious cause I live pretty much next door to bathurst.

Did I hear right that they're capping you boys to 4 six packs a day or four liters of wine now? Still not going to stop the fights.

Very cool.
Speaking of fights, I love what they said about Bathhurst in this Top Gear segment. It's at about the 2:10 mark.

OMG !!
I have never seen such cool vintage car racing as this !!
I'm now a fan !!
Thanks for posting !

These guys drive with raw passion and abandon .
They have to have cannonball cradles in the passenger side of the car to hold their b%&ls ..

They definitely don't have a problem with trading paint. Definitely different than any of the other nostalgia races I've seen coverage of.

Thanks for posting!! VERY talented drivers!

It's amazing watching Australia's version of a Muscle Car (a 4-door Falcon) keep up with those pony cars!

VERY COOL!!! :twothumbs

Glad you liked it guys, we are pretty proud of Bathurst. The Holden Vs Ford battle is huge over hear, you are definitely either a Holden or Ford fan, there really isn't any common ground.

It's a great category.

Just not enough races nor enough coverage

http://www.touringcarmasters.com.au/

In short old muscle cars but new technology (disc brakes, suspension, dry sumped engines, safety equipment). In short it IS pro-touring but on the race track...old cars, new technology...

Best race I ever saw had a 68 and 69 Camaro literally going hammer and tong sideways on the ragged edge....jut awesome to watch

I love the fact that they are limited to Hoosier 15" radials! Makes the car keep the vintage looking and keeps the costs down as well.
The look is so much more correct then low profile 17's, 18's etc for this type of vintage racing. I'm starting to rethink the tire and wheel selection for my own car!

Awesome class of racing.

Here's a video of a Gasolene TV feature I did on a 67 Camaro that runs in the very class of racing that these Touring Cars Masters cars derived from. It's called Group NC Historic Touring Cars. The rules are based around cars that ran in the day up to Dec 1972. Very Similar to Transam. We even had a few Transam cars imported here at the time.

Hahhahaha i know some of you can , and overhere some of us can match up.
But the way its orginized over there and the way they battle it out is unbeliveble.
Also its one of the fastest growing motor sport in popularety in Ausie land. This compeard to the smal population the ausies have compeard to what we have we can ez say they are race and car crazy and have us beat bij a mile.
And il tank them for that hahahha,ps very cool pictures of your camaro!! looks like your using the car as it should as wel..

Easy to say David but its a class that has not come back. Most of the higher end drivers move up to a different class of car. Rarely will you see all out racing with the classic cars. Most often in the states its just an exibition type no pass racing. Maybe it will grow in popularity and make a comeback.

When guys with deep pockets are dropping serious coin to build them it would be tough to get then to go door to door racing. If it was me i'd build a car with a fiberglass bodied classic. Hard to find a nice rust free shell then have to beat it up or spend the money to fix up a rusty car then beat it up. Im a woos

Im with Scott, wish they had good video of the old school racing.

haaa found one circa 1968... sorry gets kinda psycodelic at the end...crank up the lava lamps.

The biggest difference I see between the Australia races and the American Vintage races are the cars... There is no way any owner of one of the original Trans Am Race cars with historical significance are going to race their cars in the same fashion as the guys in Australia who can take any old pony car and put a rollcage in it, some other go-fast goodies, and go racing. These cars being driven in the American Vintage races are the REAL cars driven by Donohue, Follmer, Posey, Savage, Jones, etc. They are purchased for their investment value, history, and spirited fun. There would be much more reckless abandon if they were just any old car fixed up for racing...

The closest thing we have to this would be the American Iron Extreme racing. Most of those guys have newer vintage cars ('80's - 90's) but there are a few running the earlier iron. Paul's Automotive won the series in 2008 had a black '65 Mustang...

Either way, it's VERY cool seeing these cars flying around the track, fender to fender! :drive:

Any of these Australia guys could probably keep up or even outrun the Trans Am cars and heroes of the '60's just because the quality of the tires they have nowadays...

David, this is definitely a very cool race series. Hell, if I could afford to I would be out there with them. To me, this is the favorite type of cars to race and watch racing. I cant believe how many of our old cars are out there in Australia. It looks like there is a huge fan followoing. Thanks for sharing, hope I win the lottery, LOL:fingersx:

Some of the cars in these fields are very rare and worth a lot of money, maybe 3-4 hundred thousand dollars or more, the racing is taken very seriously here in Aus.

As good as it is it kinda sucks. All the rules which limit the vehicle is just stupid. That means if the car you start with is natrually designed bad, you cant modify it to the point where its as good as the other cars because you have exceeded what the rules allow... thats the only thing I hate about it. They should allow specific modifications to specific cars so that all cars irrelivant of make/model can at least be comparable in performance rather than 'o well your base model is crap and you can only modify it as much as others can but others got a car that was modified alot better in the factory so they will always have a better car' . Rules seem to = limitations rather than fairness.

Then i gues they should have bought the beter cars to begin with. obviusly they belive they have a chanse. and looking at it that silver green64 falcon thuse a pretty good job!!!.. thing is its very close all out racing the way it should be.

Thats the whole problem. It is not a true representation of what the car can do. All it shows is what the 'factory' decided to do with the car rather than the potential of the car itself.

However the falcon was pretty good. Was an enjoyable thing to see. Even though I am a dodge person, I really did like that Boss Mustang. The white mustang was a little wild bumping that guy off the track lol.

We have an abundance of racing classes over here that offer the oppurtunity to go all out with minimal limitations when it comes to rules. This Touring car masters series is for people that want to have the chance to race factory transam style race cars just it was in the day. I love early factory muscle but I also love the retro - Pro Touring scene as well.

Um, the whole point is to bring it back to what Touring cars were back then, factory offerings of the day put on the track. Rules similar to then. Its not about what you can do, its about doing the best with wat you got, as it was then. Once you start "improving" things in the name of "parity" then you can quickly lose the whole nature and feel of the series.

To race it how it was back then, same cars and feel... I can agree with that. Thanks for the point! :)

What classes do we have that are not so limited down here? I have a 68 charger that I want to make handle fairly well. Coil-overs etc etc. Possibily the XV2 kit all-round. Where would this car qualify to race even if its open track days... I just want to have fun with other cars out there without cops pulling me over doing it on the street.

There are a whole bunch of clubs out here on the west coast. If you want to compete I recommend NASA Time Trials. Track masters is cool and they have alot of fast guys but they never time your laps. Speed Ventures and Northern California Racing Club time their laps although you'll need an AMB transponder.

I live next door to bathurst though which is east coast (2 hours west of sydney). All I know of down here is Eastern Creek raceway and Bathurst Raceway, but I dunno if they have anything available. *scratches head* Im new to this so I need some direction, and not the sort that points to the door either.
