hazards go off when i hit the brkaes

anybody know how i can get the hazards to continue flashing when i hit the brakes? everything is wired up as it should be, but i can't figure out why its doing that. i have the digitails, which are awesome. i also have the marquez front led lights, and have no load flashers as well. all my blinkers work fine, my brake lights work great, and the running lights are good as well. the blinkers continue to blink when i'm on the brake, but the hazards do not. the hazards work great when i'm not on the brake. how can i fix this? anybody have any ideas? over here in Germany, its mandatory for the hazards to work while on the brake, or you don't pass inspection.

I believe that is correct for a 1st gen. My 67 with original wiring worked that way.

My 2nd gens (all pre 74) have acted this way where the brakes over ride the hazard flash. I do not have the wire schematic infront of me, but it sounds like this how the early cars worked. Hopefully others will chime in.

i kinda thought that was how it was from the factory.

Its grounding thru the hazard lamps, maybe or the switch is bad in the column

it's doing what it is designed to. On cars that don't have separate turn signals from brake lights that is exactly how they are designed to work. I think they didn't figure that you would be driving with the Hazards on and if you did Brake lights were still more important.

ok, i get the fact that they are working as designed, but my question is, is there a way to have it work the other way? if what you're saying is that the brake and turn signals are not seperate, how can you put your blinker on and slow down at the same time? i may have misunderstood what you wrote, but if that were the case, nothing would work when you hit the brake. i know my blinkers still work when braking, just not the hazards. i would have thought the hazards would be tied in to the turn signals, not the brake lights...:hmm:

What I meant is that the same filament in the bulb worked the brake lights and turn signals, unlike many newer and foreign cars that use a separate bulb for turn signals.
I think you answered your own question. The Blinkers interrupt the brake circuit but the Brake lights over ride the Hazard circuit. It's just the way they designed them.

Don't use the brakes....LOL, hazards will work just fine as long as you keep your foot off the brake...LOL

Those are wired to work just like the stock bulbs, so they are irrelevant to this issue. You can wire it differently but I would have to see the Camaro Wiring diagram complete in order to come up with a suggestion. Maybe someone else has done this.

here in Germany in order to register your car, the brake lights have to be seperate from the hazards. as an example, when your cruizin on the autobahn, and come up on traffic slowing down real fast, you're suppose to use your hazards to let others know behind you that they need to slow down, because of the high rate of speeds they drive on the highways over here. its a vehicle registration thing. thats how all the vehicles over here are...i'm trying to register my belair and camaro with historic plates over here, and this is one of the things that has to be fixed before i can get historic plates...

Gotcha. Do they not have an exemption for cars that weren't built that way? Or cars that were built before 1965 when they didn't even have hazards?

I think that you may need an extra bulb dedicated for the hazards.....unless you can figure out how to get the flasher to interrupt the brake light.(IOW, the flasher would need to be between the brake light switch and the bulb)...unless I'm thinking about it all wrong.
