/track car
Helped a friend put some parts on his '94 Mustang GT for track and street use, and now that he's getting a handle on driving( NASA HPDE3), some problems are starting to show up as he goes faster. I believe some are setup related and some may be due to the combination of parts he has in his rear suspension:UPR Exteme performance upper and lower arms with heim style joints, Varishock single adjustable coilovers with 200 lb/in springs, UPR rear swaybar and Maximum Motorsports panhard bar. ( Front has UPR K-member, lower arms and swaybar, Tokico adjustable struts and 350 lb/in coilover springs). Engine is a pretty stock 5.0 from a late Explorer, aftermarket T5 and a 3.73 traclock 8.8 rearend. Cobra brakes front and rear, subframe connectors welded in, torque box reinforcements, rollcage tied into rear suspension points. Wheels are 17x9.5 Cobra with 275-40x17 888 tires. Car is lowered about 3.5" from stock, front shocks set on 4( of 5 adjustments to stiff) and rear shocks set at 10 of 16 adjustments. Car weighs 3350 with driver and a half tank of gas.
Car is starting to hop in the rear on right turns as he's going faster. Doesn't do it on street tires, so I'm thinking the extra grip is coming into play with the stickies. Could he be getting into a bind using a panhard bar with a triangulated 4-link, too much rear swaybar, too stiff in rear? Lots of questions, I know. Then, the Flowmaster 2.5" dual exhaust got caught against the right coilover on his 4th track session this afternoon, after never hitting before, bending it against the RR tire. Happened on a sweeping, decreasing radius left turn at PIR at about 85 mph that you enter off the Nascar oval just before turn 1 . There is a bit of a dip on entry to the infield.
I like to be able to give him something to try that won't get him further into left field.
He does plan on building a track car next year after learning some driving tips with this street/track car.
