How much does the rear window tunnel effect, of the charger affect top speed?

Comparing the 68 charger to say a 68 Bee which has not got the sail panels going past the rear window... which would be better at top speed between the 2?

Also, racing on a circuit, do you ever exceed 300km/h or not and thus the rear window issue is not even an issue because on a circuit you never reach the speed when it would have impact and thus the rear window issue is not an issue and only becomes an issue on Nascar style tracks where you can go flat out because there is no corners?

Lastly

Converting a 68 charger rear into a charger 500 rear (without the daytona wing), would that cost more than say, getting a charger 500 to start with and modifying the grill so its like the 68 charger grill... or does this work out about the same.

G-man in your case I wouldn't worry about it, I don't think you will see the speeds to make a difference without all the other areo mods.

Forget about buying a legit C500 just for the rear window. You can get the conversion parts for several grand these days. The actual C500s are worth way more in stock collectible form than a normal Charger.

A cheaper option is to use the rear hatch/window off a 1970s Chevy Vega. Of course the match is not perfect, but it's shockingly close for such an easy way to do the job.

Thanks

I am a member there lol. Its just since my questions have been more pro-touring related I thought of asking here + I like the fact its not all mopar here, there is variety of cars and to me that adds flavour though I still think mopars own. :p. Its nice to have variation, its what makes life fun.

Biggest problem in doing the conversion is finding the back window. We have built 2 c-500's and went looking for a new back glass and could not find one so we just polished the old one and ran with it. The other option is lexan. The trim is also a bear but can be built out of original charger trim with some patience.

You can get a brand new rear window from Pilkington. It's BIG money, but they have them.

When I called they did not offer one. they were the first people we called. Need to be aware there are some out there made in south america that are junk. they are not curved right. make sure it is a pilkington and not imported. just an fyi.
