Well I have made the decision to make the jump up from my Turbo V6 engine to a LS based engine with a 4L80E trans.
Some here have seen my car recently run at our RTTH6 event and it didn't do too bad at all but I just want something different for a change.
I have read the articals on the LSX section and still reading.... lol
I have listed ALL my current Turbo V6 stuff up for trade for an LS engine and trans on TurboBuick.com.. Up for trade is my V6 109 block, (K-1 rods, ported heads, 208-208 cam, 55lb injectors, ECM & chip, Methanol injection kit, built 2004r trans, Protorque 2800 converter, poly motor mounts, TE-44 turbo, and more i'm sure i'm forgetting..) and already have a guy wanting to trade me a 6.0 iron block, 4L80E, ECM, Harness FOR MY V6 stuff.
Am I on the right track here with the 6.0 iron block/4l80e or What do you guy's recomend for this swap?
If you read this please give your thoughts and imput in because I need all I can get seeing as this is the first swap I have ever done.
Thanks in advance!

Last weekend, I finally fired up my LS1 in my Monte SS. It was my first challenging swap and my first G-body. After reading until my eyes bled on LS1Tech, I decided that I didn't have time to chase parts or deal with questionable sellers and bought a radiator-to-driveshaft dropout from Cleveland Pick-A-Part.
As you know, you'll have to address intake, accessories, and oil pan clearance. If the donor is a truck, I'd pass. If GTO. . . hmmm. . .
I'd be reluctant to trade or buy if the seller wasn't reputable. And I'd make sure that whatever you trade for is equal or better than what you're receiving.
If you have specific questions about my swap story, I'd be glad to answer them. I probably should update my project thread. . .

good decision! :twothumbs good luck with the swap!
What is your stuff worth? I mean what are you asking for it basically? What are the specs on the truck motor mileage, model, etc?

What is your stuff worth? I mean what are you asking for it basically? What are the specs on the truck motor mileage, model, etc? Haven't added everything up of mine yet so not sure but off the top of my head I come in the area of $5,000-$6,000 considering what is all in the engine..
The guy wrote me back saying it's from a 2005 (3500) Van with 54,000 miles. He says he has the ECM, Harness and the 4L80E trans. (All I know so far)
Everyone on the Buick site is telling me to go iron block because they are much stronger... I don't think I will ever see the power levels it will take to wreck the aluminum block anyway, SO wouldn't an Aluminum LS2 be the better choice for weight distribution alone? I won't be going crazy with the build or anything but maybe a nice healthy cam and possibly a hit of nitrous for the drag strip once or twice a year.
Hell I have friends who have literally tried to kill these motors with nitrous and still couldn't...
Don't know which way to go, That is why i'm here asking!! lol

The iron block 6.0 will typically be cheaper than the LS2/3. You just have to decide if the wieght savings is worth the extra cost to you. Also the car engines usually have accessories that fit better in cars. The 4L80E is a great choice!

I would think with how specialized your current engine is, that the price/demand for it would be pretty decent; and I would think it is worth more than an LQ4/9. I would hold off untill you come across a LS2 pullout w/trans. The added benefits of the alluminum block outway the cons (if any...).

The 4L80E is a nice choice but a 4L65E may be easier to find as a pull out already attached to a LS2 or LS3. You said you are not planning to make tons of power. I agree that an aluminum block is preferred but nothing wrong with the iron block other than the extra weight. If you get a truck engine you will most likely have to replace the intake with a car intake for hood clearance so figure that in your trade deal.
You'd be getting a raw deal if you swapped parts worth $5-6k for that 6.0 and trans combo. That's what I was trying to determine. Expect to pay $3-5k for a LS2/trans combo probably closer to $4k-5k depending on how hard you look and what not.
I'd go with the LS2 if you can afford it. Nothing wrong with an iron block engine though.

I'd go with the LS2 if you can afford it. Nothing wrong with an iron block engine though. Well as I looked closer at all the things I can get rid of the price is right at $6,000. There were a few things not thought of like the front mount intercooler and stuff and looked some of my parts up to see what they are selling for.
LS2/LS3 and a 4L80E with ECM, Harness, sensors ETC. is what i'm after!!
Thanks for all the input guy's!! Keep it coming your helping me decide.

I'm in the same boat as you, but don't have the money to get LS2 engine that I want.

I have a 6.0, 4l80 and turbo setup for a G body, not sure what I want to keep or sell, but Im only a couple hours. I may be interested in your buick parts for some of my parts? Depending what you want....

I'm interested in a Low mileage LS2 with a 4L65E trans and the ecu, harness and drive shaft.
I'm not looking to make gobs of power so no need for a 6.0 iron block! I am after weight savings more than anything for what my car will be used for.
If anyone has what i'm looking for I will be very interested!

I'm just curious to why you'd want to swap out your lc2/2004r(.67 o/d) for an ls1/4l80e(.75 o/d)
seems like youre going backwards in performance and gas mileage??
