Has anybody got a car painted Satin Silver or Satin Black? I'm considering painting my Chevelle one of these two colors, so :machine: pictures of either color would be helpful. Thanks!!!

IMO only candy with metallic base look good satin, regular metallic color just looks like faded MAACO job. A satin candy looks like Christmas tree ornament with glowing effect. Do it black satin or cany, but not silver

Has anybody else painted their car either of these colors? Surely there's more out there...

BMW actually has a matte gunmetal grey for the M3 next year and I'm pretty sure AMG has some matte finishes available. If you're really going to do it, no photo is a substitute for a test panel.

Satin silver seems like it would just look like primer, IMO.

O.k. guys. It would have to be between the silver Porsche or the BMW. I can see my Chevelle in the silver with a blocked out black hood. What do ya think?

both beemer and porsche are awesome! but i think they look so good as there is no chrome at all, a shiny piece would look so wrong imho,

I'm pretty sure the Beemer color is their "Frozen Grey" I love it!

I found the color code but the stickers were in German...lmao

The color is Frozen Grey and from what I've read only 30 cars were sold in the US in that color. I'm thinking of doing that same color on my 73 camaro with anvils CF hood and trunk lid ( I don't what stips anymore), black ZR1 wheels , and trying to figure out if all the chrome should be blacked out. Sorry I was going to post this today. But I have been reading a lot on the bimmer sites about how difficult that paint is to care for. There is a warning sticker that talks about not waxing ( there is one company that makes wax for matte finish), rubbing hard, no tire shine and removing bugs everyday or every other day with a BMW product. Its a dust magnet but from the same reading you just hand washing it with soap and water and you dont get water spots or swirle marks. Sorry to go on but would love to find out more about the car and how hard it is to color match. Thanks Bill

I just wanted to share with everybody what I've found out on the matte or satin paint so far. I asked the guys at Colormatch, a local automotive paint supplier, and they said I just have to paint the car the color of my choice and use their MATTE clear coat (2 or 3 coats) instead of regular clear coat. They said this will give the new paint the clear coat protection just with a matte finish instead of high gloss. If any professional body man or customizer has actually done this type of paint job on an automible, I'm sure we would all benefit from your experience! Thanks.

Be careful of Flattened clear coats. They will not hold up. The flattening additive makes the clear porous and scratch easy as well. Use a Factory Pac clear designed for exterior finish use. I don't reccomend Hot Hues Matte either as it scratches easy. I used PPG flex and flat the other day and seems to be holding up well so far.

I use Dupont G2 7779 or G2 7776 clear with there 2360S Flexible matting additive.

I have done a few cars with that and its holding up great. I now do almost all of the suspension on projects a flat color.

I think a satin silver with a gloss black racing stripe would look amazing on a chevelle
