Hello
A quick presentation of my car:
I bought it 8 years ago in 2002, in the south of France. A matching number 67 RS Camaro, 327/275 with powerglide, with its original paint.
The paint was imediately done because it was not in a very good shape, but the body was very good: no rust. The first goal was to keep it all original...
I once let my mother drive it, but she broke the engine driving on the highway in first gear (she was not used to Automatic transmissions)

I was then under the bad influence of a friend who convienced me to build a 383 instead of the small 327.
that was the beginning of the modifications.
in the years, I modified the transmission to a 200-4R, all the suspension from Hotchkiss, C5 front brakes, 17" rims, meca Roller cam, untill October last year:
Then big modifications arrived.
My friend has a 72 Chevelle , twin turbocharged, EFI, he managed to convince me to swap the carb for EFI and to install a turbocharger... It nearly lasted 10 month till I could drive the car again.
Here are the actual pictures:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/09/_ICT6391JPG-1.jpg
It is an Edelbrock Pro-Flo intake, on which I added 8 nozzles for water-injection.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/04/_ICT5873JPG-1.jpg
The EFI Controller is MEgasquirt, MS3 with MS3X for sequential injection.
You don't see the turbocharger: I put it on the back as STS does:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2010/09/IMGP3183JPG-1.jpg
That is an old picture, during install.
I will make new ones with all the pipes.
The Tank is an Alumùinium tank from "behind bars race cars" (very good quality)
I will update the thread with new pictures this week-end.

that's really cool! do you have any other plans for the car??

I'd run some stock wheels on that thing. It would make a cool driver/sleeper.

The car is nearly finished.
I however still have some plans for the future:
4l80e transmission to replace the 200-4R which should not last long with the turbo
new block and bottom end to be able to increase boost to a higher level then only 8PSI.
And rear disc brakes
After that, I hope i will only drive it and stop working under

I am not sure what the consensus is here, but I am a fan of the 200R4. There is a reasonable aftermarket supply for 200R4 parts from the Grand National community. I am not sure if that translates to parts that perform well behind a turbo small block.

I think I could make the 200-4R strong enough for the engine, but it seems that it will cost a lot more than changing to a 4L80e. (need of billet parts and shafts)
If I don't manage to find a 4l80 in Europe, I will upgrade the 200-4R.

I've got a 'turnkey' setup 4L80e for SBC/BBC for sale:

- Twistmachine Shrifter paddle shifter, www.twistmachine.com/Paddle_Shifters.html
- Pro Torque MuscleDrive 2600rpm Torque converter, http://twistmachine.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=18
- TCI 377000 controller, incl. alle wiring, software and hardcopy manual
- TCI 377400 Throttle Position Sensor
- B&M Transmission cooller incl. Russel braided hoses and all necessary connectors
- new shift kit
- B&M Megashifter.

Used it behind the mildly tuned 454 I had in my 67 Camaro. It worked flawless. Diagnoses, changes, etc. are super easy (PC/Laptop). Recently changed the entire set up to LS3/T56 (I just needed that extra pedal :naughty:)

If you're interested please PM me for price and further details (incl. shipping options).

The 200-4R broke last week.
I have found 2 4l80e thanks to neki67, in the Netherlands at a very good price.
We will rebuild and upgrade them. one will be installed in my car, keeping the automatic mode using a megashift controller, the other will be installed in my friends biturbo Chevelle, with a manual valve body.

They are in a very good shape.
What should be upgraded in your opinion?
I was thinking about the input shaft.

VERY nice car!! :1st:

With it's pretty stock-looking exterior you should be able to blow some Ferrari and Porsche owner's minds with that car...

Some news about the car:
parts for the transmission were ordered from Jakeshoe, they should arrive in the beginning of next year.
I added a silencer in the exhaust line because the car was really too loud. But I didn't drive it yet because of the beoken trans to hear a noticeable difference.
An electronic speedometer was ordered with the matching tach to replace the original instruments in the dash. I was inspired by this tread:
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=188021
It will be Autometer Ultra Lite gauge with the speedo in KPH.

Here are some pictures of the exhaust line with the silencer and also pictures of the fuel pump and return pump fot the turbo oil.
The tank is an aluminium tank from BBRC.

how much turbo lag is there with the remote mount?

gui67
12-26-2010, 11:53 PM
I will tell you this spring or summer about throttle response and lag, I didn't drive it enough or even not put the throttle wide open yet.
max TPS I recorded was around 60% and it was already hard to control on the small European roads. I also didn't want to brake the transmission, what I anyway did.

gui67
04-19-2011, 12:02 PM
the 4L80 is now installed and running with megashift controller.
I tested the car with the new transmission this afternoon, I finally accelerated at 100% TPS without fearing to break the transmission.
the turbo really has no lag, or really few. the engine has a lot of torque, the boost comes at 3000RPM
It is incredible to drive, I am really happy with the result. The noise is also awesome: as the turbine is at the end of the exhaust, we ear it at any speed, like a jet engine.
I will try to make a movie and post it

Very Nice! I have to ask, are American muscle cars common in Europe? How hard is it to get parts for them? It seems as if they are just as popular there as they are here.

Yes, they are popular. Not so common as in the US: the classic carts here are mostly European, but there are still some american cars. (Most people here only know Corvette, Cadillac and Mustang)

The 383 sbc is ready to get out of the car. It will be replaced by a 5.3 LM7.
I keep the turbo and the megasquirt ECU for that engine.

I am in the process of ordering all the parts to upgrade the engine: forged pistons and rods...

I also have an intercooler to install: a lot of work for this winter.
I really hope to increase the performance even if the displacement is smaller: As the bottom end is stronger then my small journal 383, I will be able to increase the boost to 15 PSI or even higher.

Very cool mounting the turbo back there!any issue with heat back there on floor board or by gas tank?

gui67

a small update of the project:
the LM7 is in. (I draw and built the mount adapter myself)
with a pro-flo intake. (it fits the flat hood, only by a few mm)
I also added an intercooler. (threadstone vertical flow)
I managed to get the RS door-light opening even with the intercooler, and to keep the original hood opening. (I didn't want to drill holes in the hood to add pins.)
Some pictures of the actual state.

Great going Gui! That's gonna make some impressive numbers on the dyno . . . .

gui67
07-16-2012, 10:09 AM
I don't think the power will be so impressive: the turbo is rather small.
But the sound was awesome on the previous engine, with that huge turbo whine.
My main goal is to have a good acceleration, a good sound and being able to smoke the tires on the highway. If I manage to get these 3 things, I will be happy.

The engine was upgraded with Wiseco forged pistons, Compstar rods, ferrea exhaust valves and a LS2 camshaft.
The heads are stock.
I used Autokraft oil pan, Dougs exhaust headers. I had no interference problems. My engine mount adapters were made to place the transmission on the same place as the Gen I SBC: to keep the crossmember and the driveshaft length. It is very close to the firewall but it does not touch. I also tried to make it the lowest possible to let enough place for the intake.

If you are interrested, I can send you the dxf to be laser cut.

That's cool that you can hear the turbine, but I'm surprised by the muffler placement, that's a lot of volume and heat dissipation pre-turbo.

Did you build the MS3 yourself? How did it go? Did you take it somewhere to tune it or do that yourself? I love the car, and I agree with others about stock appearing wheels... that would blow some minds.

gui67
07-17-2012, 08:41 AM
Bernie, I used the 3.57 board for Megasquirt, so nothing to solder, but for the other boards (relay board, peak and hold board for the injectors) I built them myself.
I tune it myself. For the Gen1 sbc, I used the ignition and VE map of a friend as a basis: a twin turbo 350, but then made the fine tuning to adapt them to my engine.
It is really easy to make a approximate tune whith which you can drive the car, then you have to take a lot of time to make the final details for optimisation. but Autotune healps a lot on Tunerstudio.

For the muffler, I did not have enough place to put it behind the turbo and the noise was too big to drive like that without being arrested by the cops. The only place was before the turbo. In the future, I plan to insulate it with heat band, but I don't think the volume makes a big difference: it is only a few litres mores, when you think about all the exhaust that is pumped by the engine at 2000 or 3000RPM.

Hotwilz, j'aime bien le look de ta nova aussi, elle est vraiment sympa. On se croisera peut-être un jour. On est plusieurs dans le grand est à modifier du Muscle car pour les faire avancer un peu mieux. A+

Sweet mary..........this is awesome. Im so jealous of you guys with your LS engines and your turbos.

gui67
07-17-2012, 12:13 PM
Thank you. Don't be jealous, it is just a 5.3: I think it can be found for really cheap in the US.
I had to pay 1000€ for it. (very very good deal here in Europe where most 5.3 cost minimum 2500€ and LS1 more than 3500€) you can it for less than $300 in the US.
I worked during more then 2 years to build it and get the results I have now, it was a choice not being able to enjoy driving the car for a long time to make all the modifications.
And you have a big-block , it is also really nice in my opinion, not like if it was a small 305.

Some more updates.
the intake is now in place, bolted, the harness is finished, just needs to be cleaned.
I draw a coil support and let it laser cut for the Yukon coils:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/07/PICT0044JPG-1.jpg
Closer pic of the intercooler:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/07/PICT0045JPG-1.jpg

Nearly no interference with the light-doors:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2012/07/PICT0048JPG-1.jpg
To find a place for the ATF cooler, I had to put a spacer on the radiator to push it a bit to the back. I put the cooler between the intercooler and the coolant radiator.

The 5.3 started yesterday.
Uncreadilbly easy: 2 seconds were enough to make it start. I just needed to add more fuel cause the idle was way too poor (AFR = 22) and let the autotune make its job. The car idles now perfectly at 800 RPM, in drive too.
The engine is much quieter then the last one: It has 1 liter less and the cam is much smaller. I can't wait to make the first drive next weekend, it seems really promising.
The only concern is that I cannot make full power: I want to change the original axles with C-clip for welded Ford ends and beefier axles. I don't want to see one wheel overtaking me on the road...
I don't have a video now, but I hope to post one next week
