Sorry to hear...hope you get it back in 1 piece. I always get so pissed off when something like this happens to me--I feel targeted! On the plus side, this definitively puts an end to the "tinted windows" thread.

It was stolen from the parking lot of Walmart along with at least another car.

I was fully aware of it being the #1 stolen car. At this point I dont think I will be getting it back which really sucks. My kids ask me every couple of hours if their truck is back.

aT 8 PM today I received a call from East LA police dept. They found my truck. I am exited I got her back. All that was taken were the wheels, navagation, rear seats and some damage to the door, dash and steering column. Motor sound a bit qurkey.

The tv's, dvd changer, kids seat, kids shoes were all left in the car. My son cried when he found out seat was stolen and will have a big surprise come tomorrow morning. x mas came early. Now I need to figure out how to get the $$ for the deductable since I have a run of bad luck, and have had a ton of unexpected expencess like this.

If he had the folding 3rd row, definitely. Stealing 3rd row seats is such a problem that evan as far back as 2003 or so Ford had to put VINs on all 3rd row seats and IIRC all mechanics had to scan snd validate the VIN when it came in for service.

That's crazy... never knew 3rd row seats were such a hot item!

On that note, I had a '86 Silverado a while back that was stolen. When it was found, the bed was FULL of stolen compact spare tires/wheels. Why would anybody steal those?

They weren't, they were ditching them in the 'trash truck'.

In LA they don't even try to catch car theives, for the cops it is too much paper work and the thief will have stolen another car long before the officer has let the ink dry on the arrest report. Besides the officer will end up getting sued by the "cast off of sociaty" for arresting them when the vehicle was left in public by the owner.

I got the est from the shop $10,400 WOW. about 7800 of it is in the nav unit, wheels/tires and the rear seat. Holly ***** I was not aware they made these things with gold. Now I know why my insurance was so inflated.

I'm surprised it still had the cats on it....around here they seem to be the items that get hacked off first.

thats weird on how they steel this escalades ,dont they have Onstar gps and transponder key ?

For $7800 that Nav system better point to the location of the theives.

Where in East LA did they find it? When I lived in East LA scum bags (probably some neighbors) would always drop their stolen cars near Gage and Floral. I would call the sheriff ASAP when I would see the cars, in hopes of getting their cars back before the vultures got to it. The deputies were very good about responding.

Is considered totaled at that price??? The gadgets and wheels are worth more than the cars themselves nowadays.

Holy hell, $8700 for the nav radio, that is ridiculous.
http://cgi.ebay.com/15108421-03-04-Escalade-Chevy-NON-LUX-INR-NAV-OEM-Radio-/170405814827?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27acfa622b
you can find the radio/nav on e-bay usually under $1K, now if they stripped the rest of the onstar gadgets that's going to add up.

I bought some nice GTO leather seats at a good deal, all in great shape.

i think it was 7800 for the nav, wheels and seat together. maybe im wrong.

just glad to see you got it back. keep your head up and remember the good things in life.

1badchevelle
09-23-2010, 06:13 PM
Tim you are correct.the 7800 was for the 3 items.

Rick in 04 they did not have transponder keys I think they started in 06 or 07

Mike it was found on Lorena and 8 st

The reason it was not a total loss was the value of the truck was in excess of $25k. The truck only has 66xxx miles and the interior was flawless. The exterior only had a 1 1/2"scratch in the rear by the trailer hitch and one 1/2" on the drivers side passenger door done by my youngest son. I am not sure if they are going to repair all the small nicks that were on it after it was stolen but just happy I got betsy back.

Here is a pic a bit closer before it was taken.

As my look would have it the truck was stolen again today and recovered within 2 hours. Bad thing is they did some damage to the inside of the truck. I actually seen them drive of and chased after them.

it had one and a alarm. No lojack or on star.

Man, people must want your car real bad.....stand alone alarm system with muliple cut outs on fuel pump, ignition and starter...nothing that depends on the factory wiring/security system...maybe that'd slow them down a bit.
Damn, I hate thieves......

you need to do something different than you doing, maybe like laying down in the back with a nice Mosberg 500 12 ga. blowing there ****ing heads off!!!!!

SLO_Z28
01-09-2011, 07:56 AM
LoJack is worth every penny. That car is stupid easy to steal, and there is a large demand for parts that are very easy to get off that.

Also, having front windows tinted on a car that flashy is asking for a ticket....just saying lol.

Have you looked into using column clam shells or pedal locks?
Stead Fast Auto Security has the Car Gard Column lock and the Auto Lock devices.

A bit harder to boost a car when the easy to bypass starting mechanisms are protected with a layer of steel ;)

Geeze! what a PITA! I had a custom van years ago, and the damn thing was like candy to thiefs, but they were never able to drive it away.
As others suggested, layers of security helps, fuel pump shutoff, ign cutoff, column guard, LoJack is around $650 IIRC, after being hit twice in 1 yr, I would jump on that, just for avoid the additional aggravation of waiting.
I'm glad you recovered it quickly this time.

you need to do something different than you're doing, maybe like laying down in the back with a nice Mosberg 500 12 ga.
I like how you're thinking! :machine:

I'm surprised no one asked - you chased after them? Did you catch them or see where they took the truck? Was it like a car chase scene from a moive? So glad you got it back, hopefully safe and sound...

Was it like a car chase scene from a moive?

You mean like speeding up to a car hauler... launching off the rear like a ramp...exploding into flames while airborne but before landing on all four wheels... all while the owner is hanging onto the car roof after having jumped on top from his other car... and then everyone walks away without a scratch?
