My 3500 crewcab.
I was at the tailgate and noticed drops of oil, uh oh....leaned to take a look underneath and noticed the pumpkin was wet, rolled on under and realized that it was coming from farther up front.
Looks like either the bolts or the seam where the two halves of the transfer case go together is leaking.
Is there a gasket in there or did the factory just smear some gasket sealer between the two halves?
The last t-case that I had a part was the one in my 85 p/u, so I'm not sure how much has changed since then.

Take a good look at the tailhousing of the transfer case about 8 inches from the end at about the 3 oclock position. The fluid pump on the inside rattles and wears a hole in the case and fluid weaps all over. Ive seen quite a few of them.

The fix is either replace that half or JB it. The reman ones are JB's right from GM!

Ah...OK
I'll take a closer look. I used brake-kleen on it last night and then just refilled the t-case. I glanced under this morning when I stopped for coffee and saw that it was damp again.

Whelp.....Nathan,
You guys hit the nail on the head. I cleaned it off really good and dry lastnight, took it for a spin, crawled back under and followed the drop of oil up to a pin hole in the topside of the tailshaft housing....uggh.
Guess I will try the JB weld until I can do better. Wonder what that tailshaft housing will cost?
Hard to believe that little pin hole can leak so much fluid...LOL I mean, it's way above the fluid level in the t-case and I can't imagine there is alot of pressure. It sprayed all over the exhaust, cross member, and the front end of the gas tank.....and everything farther back is wet too.

they are around $300 new from gm. search for an aftermarket oil pump and you'll never have that problem again. i've had to replace a few of them, save it and throw it in a fire to add some color lol.
