I know what your thinking.... another help thread... damn.
But alas it is true and i throw myself at the feet of those with more experience than i.
So in addition to the wonderful brake (solved!), steering (unsolved!!!!) issues i have had i now have another.
MY starter has been having issues for thelast few months. Requiringmore and more clicks to start. now around 8 to 12 everytime. So i took the starter out, took it all apart and cleaned it. It wasnt very dirty inside but i cleaned it anyways. This didnt help at all.
So i figured it must be the solenoid. So i went to kragen and bought anew one for 47 bucks... ugh. I popped it in and the issue has not changed at all! Is there some other fix i could be missing? is it just shot and time to buy a new one?
Id prefer to fix this one if possible as a new one is roughly 150.
thanks for any advice or ideas

need more details
by clicks you mean turning the key forward?
when you turn the key what does it do?just click, spin up but not engage?
when it does this do the lights dim or not change?

by clicks i mean turning the key to the starter position. When i turn the key i just get the clicking noise, and my fans and fuel pu,p start up, but car does not attempt to turn over.
I dont know about dimming as i dont run interior lights

the clicking noise you hear is an indication that the solenoid is working but the starter isnt turning over...remove it from the car and take it to a parts store to have it tested for sure, cause it sounds like the starter has a dead spot

Do you have enough voltage / amperage getting to the starter to make it turn the engine ???
You mentioned that when you turn the ignition key to the "on" position , that the fans come on , etc...
Are you having too much of a voltage draw from other things ???
Also , has the battery become sulfated , and doesn't have enough voltage ??
Are the battery cables to the starter in good shape , and connected correctly ?? ( no loose connections or corrosion ? )

no corrosion, battery cables are good. I dont think there is too much draw as the car used to start just fine before with the fans and pump on. this didnt affect it for the last two years.

You know, I forgot you have an Lt1, Google says you can use an Lt1 starter on a Gen 1, so my guess would be you can use a Gen 1 on an Lt1?
You're more than welcome to try it out.

That starter "probably" has both bolt patterns...straight and angled patterns.....so it should work.

If I remember correctly, it does have 4 mounting holes; so it probably does have both styles.

They usually share one bolt hole, so maybe you remember 3 mounting holes?

Maybe...
I took it off about 2 years ago, put an Olds Diesel starter in place of it. Mini starter good for 18:1 compression.
