I'm in the same boat. I live in FL and I'm looking at a car in CA. I really wish I could get a really sweet price on getting it shipped here.

Both of you guys should check out uship.com This is a site where you get the best bang for your buck if you need something moved. Its kind of like ebay, you post what you need shipped, and companies bid on it. Remember, the more info you put up the better. And the best part is that it doesnt cost you anything, I think. I do some transporting on this site, and uship takes their fee out of the winners bid. So you would end up sending uship a small percentage, and then square up with the transport company. I have never had anything shipped on this site, just bidding my services, and let me tell you it is very competitive. Just be sure you read up on a companies profile before you accept a bid, if thats what you go with. What Im saying is that you dont want some guy that has never pulled a trailer hauling something for you! Good luck on your shipping, and I hope this helps. If I was closer I would shoot you a price.

I've heard good things about u-ship for packaged stuff myself. However, there's no way I'm going to take a chance with a finished car. If it's a roller or just something I'm starting on, no problem. Too many horror stories about extremely nice cars being loaded on the start point, and not making it untouched to the finish. Also, if it's just a "shell" meaning no frame/suspension, I'd be more concernend than if it were a complete rolling chassis. Much more caution required to secure an unmounted body without damage.

This is who I used to ship my vette from CA to VA. Great to work with and I had my car in 8 days. Give them a call and talk to Dan.

x2! All good advice above. I am living proof you cannot ship your car via best price/just any transport company. I sent a painted roller, all original sheetmateal car to the midwest. It arrived about 14 days later ("It's in transit" huh?) and had every panel damaged. Further advice - make sure you get a cert of insurance before you book the deal. It'll help speed the resolution process.

I used Reliable Carriers http://www.reliable-carriers.com/default.cfmto move my Chevelle from Phoenix to Chicago (just outside Chicago) last January. I save a couple hundred bucks by droppingthe car at their pheonix office, instead of having it picked up. But then again, their office was ony 30 miles from where the car was. Everything went quick, smooth and flawless, but it was a running car.

In both cases, the shipping companies told my friends that the company was "self insured" and they didn't find themselves responsible, because they didn't believe that they were the ones that caused the damage. I guess "self insured" shipping companies are more common than one would think.

I used Direct Express Auto Transport to ship a 69 Camaro from Chicago to North Carolina. Total price was $575.00 for a running car and an open trailer.
