ZR1 Brembo brakes????

Question on the ZR1 brakes has anyone brought these from a GM parts dealer? Are they being sold to the public? If so what price???:thankyou:

the rotors and calipers are on gm parts direct, about $6500 just for rotor and calipers

Thanks Mike, I'll check it out. Wonder if they will bolt on to Corvette C5 suspension using the ZR1 hats. Or would I need the ZR1 uprights as well???

Cheers did some shopping now I'll wait to find out about availability and shipping costs.............

they fit c5/c6 uprights... wheel clearance for a 15.5" rotor up front is the bigger issue.

It is possible to get them but from what I understand you need a ZR1 vin to get parts for them, which your dealer can get around if they are willing.

What if you do not use the ZR1 ceramic rotor? Will the stock pads work well with a cast iron rotor, if that's the direction you take? Are aftermarket non-ceramic rotor pads available?

Reading about the ceramic rotors, they last 3 to 4 times longer than an iron rotor. I'll stick with those for the benifits over an iron rotor.

That's all well and good, but it's been said by the two people in our group running these brakes that they really need to be paired with an ABS system in order to be an all-around improvement over cast iron rotors.

Edit: At this price point, I think you could get some seriously impressive performance out of AP Racing or Brembo components. If you're going to be running ABS and you have the ability to tweak the controller to work with these brakes on your exact car, then the Carbon Ceramics would definitely be the way to go.

No doubt, however it can and has been done without spacers/adapters. Any wheel company capable of making wheels to fit the Ferrari carbon/ceramic kits should be able to make wheels to fit the C6 ZR1 Corvette brakes as they are quite similar in terms of radial and axial fitment. I've had this conversation with Zak at Boze and he mentioned that they put together some wheels for a somewhat unique Timeless Kustoms "Death Star" 1st-gen Corvette/AME project car. Last I checked, there was a video of it stretching it's legs on Boze's "Video (http://www.bozeforged.com/videos.html)" page.

For reference, these brakes dwarf the C6 Z06 brakes if you haven't seen them both side by side in person. The ZR1 Brembo front caliper is almost 14.5" wide, end to end versus just under 12" for the 6-piston C6 Z06 front. Bigger isn't always necessarily better though as stated above. Extracting the available performance from these brakes can be difficult if the car they're going on is anything less than a ZR1 Corvette in terms of handling.

Also, when pricing everything out, make sure you note the quantities required per vehicle. The pads are sold in "per caliper" kits last I checked and they're not cheap. That said, they have been readily available (1-2 weeks at most) without a VIN if you've got the cash.

If you are going to track your car you really need ABS for the ZR1 brakes to work. I have gone off track at high speed because they lock up at the worst times.
